SOURCE: programing for uniden bearcat scanner bc 144xl

danval, I looked up a pic of your scanner and it is pretty straightforward. If it is the 16 channel I was looking at, here is the step by step programming.
1- Push manual button to go to the channel you want to start programming.
2- Enter the freq number in.
3- Push the E button to enter it in the memory.
4- To review what you programmed, push the Review button.
5- Use manual button to step to next channel and start over from #2
That should get you started with the scanning hobby.
The scanner has a Priority button that when activated will stop scanning and go immediatly to the priority channel if someone keys their mic.
If you need freq's (or more of) for your area, go here and click on your state and county and it'll give you a complete listing.

Hope this helps you out, let us know,, Mechanic

SOURCE: uniden bearcat scanner

The scanner was probably turned off and it forgot what frequencies were programed into it. Older scanners have a problem with retaining their memory when they are shut off. Most of the older scanners have a memory back-up battery that helps the scanner retain its memory. Check and see if this battery is still good. As for your frequencies, you'll have to reprogram the scanner. To put it in technical terms, some older scanners have what is called RAM (Regency Alterable Memory) and ROM (Regency Organized Memory), when you turn off you scanner, this memory is erased, along with your programmed channels. Be sure not to turn off your scanner unless you're willing to reprogram the scanner.

I can't locate information specific to the 210XW, but hopefully this generic Bearcat programming info will help:

1. Press the MANUAL key to advance to the channel that you wish to reprogram.

2. Enter the new frequency, including decimal point.

3. Press the ENTER or E key.

4. Start over with step one to continue programming channels.

How to reset a uniden bc346xt to factory settings iwould like to program my local police

Scanner Reset to initialize the scanner's memory, turn off the scanner. Then press 2, 9, and Hold while turning it on (It helps if you can lay it flat). The scanner will give you the option 'Restore Preprogram List? "Yes"=E/No="."', if you press 'E/Yes', the scanner reloads the preprogrammed systems. Important! This deletes all programmed data. Lost owners manuel. need code install instructions. and also how to clear off all old codes

There is no general reset function that will clear all of the frequencies (they're not codes) from your scanner, but there are two ways to clear individual frequencies:
1. Programming "0.0" (zero point zero) into a channel will remove the programmed frequency.
2. Programming a new frequency into any channel will remove/override the previously programmed frequency.

You can download and print the manual for your scanner, at no cost, here:

How do you set up the scanner to scan police and ems channels

First you'll need a list of frequencies to program. For a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

Once you've selected your frequencies, power the scanner ON and

1. Press E/PGM to enter the program mode (the scanner turns on the
PGM icon).

2. If the current channel is not the one you want to program, enter the
memory number then press HOLD.

3. Enter the frequency including the decimal point, then press E/PGM.

4. To program the next memory, press or and repeat step 3. To
program a different memory, repeat from step 2.

5. To exit program mode, press HOLD or SCAN or change the scanner’s mode.

Notes:
• Any frequency you program replaces the previous memory contents.
• If you enter a frequency you have already stored in a different
memory in Step 3, the scanner beeps and displays the channel
where you have previously stored the frequency. If you want to store
the frequency anyway, press E/PGM a second time in Step 3.
• To clear the contents of a memory, enter “0” in Step 3.
• Channels you program are automatically unlocked (see
“Locking/Unlocking Memories) and have Delay turned on (See
“Setting Channel Delay”).

Handheld scanner/preprogramed frequencies

You sure confused me . . .
My recently purchased BCD396XT came with a mind of its own - not matter what I did, it would only scan the preprogrammed systems in Alaska. That didn't do much for me here in Texas, so I had to beat the thing into submission. First I installed BuTel programming software, then I deleted ALL the factory programming. Finally, I used the software to download and program what I wanted from the database at www.RadioReference.com. The scanner does exactly what I want it to.
