Question about ViewSonic VP171b 17 in. LCD Television
The monitor(VP171b viewsonic) was working fine. Res: 1280X1024 60Hz. suddenly the screen became white. after repeated power on. the screen display came back and faded away. Looking from tilted angle the screen appears to show graphics when turned on but slowly fades to white screen in few seconds. What could be the source of problem? is this fixable? thanks
SOURCE: ViewSonic VA721 monitor
this is only an educated guess based on my years of computer and electrinics experiance. I believe the problem is the AC inverter that supplies current to the monitors back light,it powers up and fails. the monitor is working but without the back light you get a blank screen. The problem is fixable, but the delema is that for a technician to troubleshoot and repair the problem may cost as much as replacing the monitor since the prices have dropped so much in the last few years.

the problem is not the mian board but the DC to DC inverters that drive the lamps behind the panels some manufactures make them available seperate from the panel but most are a part of the panel. so the whole panel may have to be replaced.

Blinking on and off is not always a capacitor issue, it is usually caused by faulty transistors at the high output transformers that light the backlights. Crappy board design ! But fixable in most cases.
