Uninstall the printer and software.
Download the updated softweware and the driver for your current OS, Reinstall the new downloaded driver when installing the printer via windows control panel.

Greetings, how do i scan documents to my computer?

Use the software installed with the CD of the All in One. There might be some options added to your document editor by those software too so you might be able to use the scan function directly from an menu option of word or pdf viewer if available.

When I try to scan it states no scan options. Once it read no connections but I am able to print from my computer.

No, HP J4580, is not a laser, it is inkjet printer.

You did not state what is your operating system and what is exact error wording. Will try to help with these limited info available, I assume you are using Windows.

Your problem indicates that you did not installed scanner software for this printer or it was not installed correctly. I would suggest re-installation of the scanner program and drivers if this is the problem. Before you do that please run HP Scanner Diagnostic Program and then follow it's instructions:

If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to follow this thread, but please provide me with necessary data, what is your Operating System, what is exact error wording.

  1. Open HP Solution Center with one of the following methods:
    • Click the Windows icon c01319360.gif , click All Programs , click the HP folder, and then click HP Solution Center.
    • Double-click the HP Solution Center icon on your desktop.
  2. If you have more than one HP device installed, click the tab or icon for the product that you are using to scan.
  3. Use one of the following methods to start the scan:
    • For photos or artwork : Click the on-screen Scan Picture "button" in HP Solution Center.
    • For a text document with or without graphics : Click the on-screen Scan Document "button" in HP Solution Center.
A screen displays to prompt for scan settings. If a settings screen does not display before the scan starts, a preference was set to bypass the prompt. To adjust settings, follow these steps to turn the prompt back on:
    1. Cancel the scan, return to the home screen of HP Solution Center, and then click the Settings option.

    3. Start the scan again.
  4. Read through the various options for the scan settings. Make selections for at least the following items:
    • Scan to: Select your scan destination from the drop-down list.

Important : HP Solution Center software versions vary, depending on the age of your product, and whether you installed updated software after the initial setup. For specific instructions on all the settings the software offers, click the Help button on the home screen or settings screens in HP Solution Center.
  5. Click Scan . The preview screen might display, if you selected an option to show a preview. Use the options on the preview screen to make any desired adjustments before you complete the scan.
After the scan completes, it goes to the destination that you specified in the settings.

How to scan with an HP J4580

Do you have the full-feature software installed? What OS is on your computer? Assuming you have the full-feature software installed (installed before connecting the printer to the computer) and a direct USB connection (with a good cable and functioning USB port), you have two choices.

Start the scan from the computer (have the document face down on the glass or face up in the ADF (for models with the document feed) and the all-in-one ready. For this, with Windows, launch the HP Solution Center (Start > All Programs > HP > HP Solution Center), then click either the Scan Photo or Scan Document button in the program. Set the desired scan settings (this should come up if it wasn't turned off) then click Scan.

Alternatively, you can start the scan from the button (it's the one closest to the button with an X (cancel) on the all-in-one and that will launch the HP Solution Center (assuming HP Digital Imaging Monitor is running). The scan menu will also come up on the printer screen with requests for more setting information (destination etc.)

With Win7 and Vista, Paint will acquire scans (Import from Camera or Scanner). Some versions of Vista and most of Win7 also include Windows Fax and Scan which will also handle new scans.

I hope this helps.

Won't scan. says no scan options, refer to documentation

You may need to have the "full-featured" software installed on your computer in order to perform scanning operations. If you do not, you may download this software for your HP model here:
