Question about Haier 42EP24S 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television
Hello all, My parents have a Haier 42EP24S 42 in. Plasma TV, approximately 9 months old. My father was watching it this afternoon, had to leave the room for a moment, and when he returned the screen was completely black. The sound still works perfectly. I checked the connections in back, and everything appears to be ok. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike
Mine did the same thing, I called Haier and reprted the problem. there is some kind of kit to remedy the problem where 3 boards are replaced. The repair performed by Sears service center was in home and cost me nothing for parts or a sevice call. Sadly now the monitor is working agin but with some interference of some kind. I called Sears service and they are coming back.

I am very desapointed with this Plasma TV. We bought it in Noverber, 24, 2006 and we were very happy with it. My wife and me were watching TV and enjoying a TV program when suddenly the screen turned completely black!!! We still get audio, but no picture at all!!! We tried all the sugestions from Haier America website and from other forums, but nothing worked!!! How is this possible???????????????? It has been only 22 days since we bought it!!! we bought it as our x-mas present for ourself and now we are so disapointed with our purchase :( We have been reading on the net and it seems to be a defect that many people has gone trough!!! Seems like they have to replace some components to fix it... HOW CAN THEY SALE A TV TO PEOPLE WHEN THEY KNOW VERY WELL IT WILL FAIL?????????? I guess the best way to save money is not by buying low priced brands!!! I will never buy a Haier tv again, and I am going to get my money back!!! Now our x-mas is ruined and we wasted 6 hours waiting in line at the store for nothing!!! That is all I wanted you to know.... Regards....

Does anyting appear onscreen when changing stations ? Can you play a dvd and see a pic? is there a pic when you select menu ?
if answer is no then there will be a powersupply fault,if there is something on screen there may be a signal board fault .
is the set under warranty?
it may be a software upgrade is all thats needed !

Hello.... Has anyone had any luck with their Haier 42EP24S after the upgrade kit was installed ? And for how long ? I have one and want to know if it is even worth fixing . Or is it "Buyers Beware" when it comes to Haier . Thanks

I have replaced the boards which I bought from Haier; I also received the pigtail from Haier with 12 wire 12 pin plugs at each end. I waited 9 months for this single pigtail and was shipped an item that is not even used in the 42 inch Haier. Is there anyone out there who is throwing one of these boat anchors away that I can buy a wiring harness from? You can reply to: firstname.lastname@example.org if you do. Thanks, Rodger
PS. The saga continues. Out of operation for one year now!

If anybody is interested, I have a brand new Upgrade Service Kit (TV-3940-01) available for sale. This kit completely repairs the Haier Models 42EP24S (Production thru 2005). If the 14th digit of the Serial Number is '5' then you will NEED this Upgrade Kit. Example: 'DE0N90E0100XX5XXXXXX'. The kit includes:
Control Board (TV-5210-39)
EEprom (new 2006 version) (TV-2455-03)
Upgrade Label (TV-4050-08)
Haier Service Bulletin (SB-TV-0003)
and Complete instructions with High Res. Photos.
The upgrade is actually fairly easy. This upgrade kit replaces almost all of the IC Boards in the TV. It will be a essentially new plasma TV when complete. Not only does the Upgrade Kit repair the flawed issues, when complete the TV acually performs, sounds and looks better than when plasma was purchased new! The Haier Company should have made this available at no cost for anyone who purchased these Plasma's.
I can be reached at the following:

Haier should be put out of business, they sell crap to people, and for those who think its cheap, guess again there are many plasma's cheaper than them and they work,
Sears is just as much at fault, you would think that they'll take of their customers.
if there is a class action let me know i'll be more than happy to participate.
to all who say that this company is good,
i say have a heart, don't support them because they are paying you

Don't knock Haier down. They are much more responsive than JVC USA. I am speaking from experience. Give them a chance to correct their mistakes. A class action suit would be appropriate only if they were not cooperative. I have never heard of a recall on TVs like they do for cars. They don't necessary have to cooperate except for the fact that they don't like the adverse publicity. They are getting ready to see through Walmart.

This is a crap TV. I had purchased two of them and as soon as the 1 year warranty went by-by; a month hadn't passed before both TVs no longer worked. One with a black screen and the other with a jumbled screen. Haier won't help, sears won't help..... If this goes to class action please let me know and I will also get involved.

I too bought a Haier Plasma 42EP24S ,it stopped working after 7 months -I moved and did not touch it for the next five months
while searching for another tv to replace it- I came apon this site .
the tv was out of warrenty by both sears and haeir
well after reading these posts I called haier america and complained they in turn extended my warrenty and a sears rep came on 5 differant times and replaced all the boards inside tv with no luck - so after putting in over $1400.00 in parts an repair into a $1200.00 tv they wanted to start replacing boards again
I refused and kept complaining to several differant reps at sears
[they told me it was haeirs responsabilty not thiers] I don't know haw many times I explained to them that sears sold me the tv not haeir so stand behind what you sell -well after alot of calls and persistance sears replaced my tv free of charge with credt for a new tv for exactly what I paid
SO DONT BUY ANY PARTS OR PAY FOR ANY SERVICE IF YOU BOUGHT THIS TV AND ARE HAVING PLOBLEMS
be persistant untill its either fixed or replaced

My experience with a Haier Plasma 42EP24S is that they have weak software chip that goes bad and can cause a number of symptoms from picture with no sound, will not recognize video inputs, or my current problem tv turns on and off irratically. This is the second time i have replace this chip, which is the socketed chip on the vga/component/dvi input circuit card. Last time i had this problem i ended up fixing it myself because sears took over 3 weeks and still could not figure out the problem. I am working on obtaining this chip, probally get about a dozen so if anyone thinks this may fix there problem as well i my have some for sale. email@example.com of Malobicky Digital Systems.

I had the same problem as every one else has posted about, but I got my TV at BrandSmart USA. I called warranty services today and they told me some one would be calling me about to come out and look at it.

Class action lawsuit against Haier, who is completey aware they are selling a defective product and will not fix the problem for free in a timely manner as should be done, shame on them, possible get7 on our side to help.Thousands of people have bought this TV from sears, all having the same problems at the same time, shame on sears who buy and sell a defected product and wont help their custumors.

I got irate with Sears - they sent their tech rep to order the kit, which they have a ton of. It arrived at my house 3 days later and rather than deal with Sears again (appointments, tech reps, possible charges) I just installed everything and the monitor is back up and running, with a working DVD connection.

Buy your parts direct from Haier, the upgrade kit is Part Number: TV-3940-01. It's $150.00 + $9.00 s&h, with a minimum delivery time of two weeks, (they were out of stock at the time.) I ordered the parts through sears , what a mistake. I was told the parts were in stock and I would have them in less than two weeks, LIES LIES LIES. sears charged me $150.00 for the kit and over $25 for shipping, it's been almost a month since I ordered the kit. Now sears tells me the parts are NOT in stock and dont know when they will get them. They carged my credit card within days of the order,( @ 25% ) and they won't let me cancel the order. They refuse to compancate me for the wait, or the outragous shipping charge. (THE WORST CUSTUMER SERVICE EVER.) This will be the last time I buy any sears products! I DON'T LIKE BEING LIED TO ABOUT PARTS AVABILITY, THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FRAUD!

Kit pn tv-3940-01 for dervice kit that has ysus xsus main bd and new eeprom

I had the same problem - Haier wouldn't sell me the repair kit and couldn't figure out which boards from the repair parts website to buy. I put the full court press on Sears to honor my warranty, which just lapsed and so now they're gonna fix it. Best solution - make Sears fixit, even if its out of warranty!

Does anybody know where i can get a set of these bords to repaire my tv thanks

Sadly, your Haier plasma tv's warranty will not help much. The labor is only covered for 90days. But, it will at least save you money on the parts. Haier has an upgrade that fixes two common problems with this set (no picture and jittery picture with progressive scans on component video input). Currently the parts are on back order, so it may take a while to get it fixed. Once it is repaired though, I suggest you ask the repair technician if he can offer you an extended warranty at a reasonable price. Parts needed for the repair are; Y main PCB, Control PCB, X main PCB, and an upgraded microprocessor.

Good things is still under warranty,I suggest you unplug it for a little while from the wall and then plug it back in and try it if that does not work take advantage of the warranty and call for service.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
Here's a link to this great service
