Make sure that if you are using windowsXP, covert x to dvd is a 32-bit or lower software and also if you are using Windows Vista, covert x to dvd must be a 64-bit software to work correctly.

You could try this tool for resetting your DVD-Rom. If this does not work then it could be you need a new Optical burner.

WHY CANT I PLAY DVD,S OR MUSIC CDS ON MY DELL VOSTRA NOTE BOOK,,WHAT AM I DOING WRONG OR WAT DO I NEED 2 DO

You need to test if this problem lies with your DVD drive or if the problem lies with software that is installed on your notebook.

Try updating your media player to the latest version.
Use another media player, VLC media player is free and it is compatable with lots of different file formats. Download it and then install it on your notebook computer.

If your DVD drive is not reading the disks then the drive may need the latest drivers or there is a bad connection between the mainboard of your computer and the DVD drive.

Take care!

0F00:136C IDE device failed:blank media or no media is present in optical drive

read failure of the CD\DVD drive. If you were running diagnostics and have no readable media in the drive, that is a NORMAL result.
If you have readable media in the drive, try reseating the drive and try to read again. If the media is not a factory burned CD, try a factory burned one.
See if you can boot to an Windows CD.
If all the above fail, then likely a drive failure, replace the drive

Dell Inspiron 6400 Vista CD Drive Does Not Recognize CDs

Try to use dvd cleaner disk to clean the lens, if it doesnot work, i think you have to replace your drive , this happens with Dell alot. but try to clean it, uninstall then install the driver back and check if its work.

DVD burning problems

Well DMX.MSI that is the dell media experience, probably there is a media direct installed on the system, bad thing about that is you might need to reinstall your hard drive, you can try to install nero and check if it will work.

No sound in my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop

If the issue is no sound after reinstallation of Windows, then your issue is most likely a driver issue. Many items in the system will function with native windows drivers but the audio on a I6400 is not one of them. Installation of drivers in the correct order is critical to Dell portables functioning correctly. Correct driver order is:

Notebook System Software.
Chipset Utility
Video Driver
Audio Driver
Modem Driver
Network Driver
Wireless Driver
Touchpad Driver
Quickset Utility

All other applications and drivers (MS Office, Printer driver etc)

This system is also equipped with Media Direct capability. For Media Direct to function, the system's HDD must be prepared using the Media Direct installation CD, then WIndows installed, then the Media Direct application. If you have no plans to use media direct, this can be skipped (Most people do)

Burning CD

hello,

I gues that your burner is combo and only burn cd-r not DVD-R. Maybe its only a DVD REader and cannot burn to blank DVD. Try to see the Rom Specification of the DEll for more information.
