Sounds like you need to go into the BIOs and see if it is on, if not you might have to get a sound card and put it in a slot. That is all I know to do. Hope this helps.

Turning on Microphone Boost in Windows XP:

Not all sound cards support Microphone Boost. The simplest way to find out in Windows XP is to open the Windows Volume Control. If a speaker icon speakericon.gif is displayed at the lower right hand corner of the Windows Desktop double-click it. If no speaker icon is displayed then click the Windows Start button and select "Run..." In the Open box enter sndvol32.exe and click the OK button. This will open the Windows Volume Control. Select "Advanced Controls" from the Windows Volume Control's Options menu. You should see an "Advanced" button near the lower right hand corner of the Windows Volume Control screen. Click the Advanced button. If the "Advanced Controls for Microphone" screen shows a check box for "Microphone Boost" then check that box and click Close. Now try making a test recording and see if it works.
Now, If you do not find this option, I found an amazing video that might just do the trick. Click on the
link and view how to see the hidden "Mickey" :). Mic Boost.

Please....my emachines d725's microphone isn't working..help please!

After downloading every possible driver and tweaking every possible adjustment I have come to this conclusion: There is NO built-in microphone on the eMachines D725! Oh, the Device Manager will show it, all right but I assure you, there is no built-in device that can pick up sound on that laptop model. You'd think that a laptop, albeit a budget on, with a built-in webcam should also have an accompanying built-in mic for messaging and calls, but it doesn't. The mic may have fallen by the wayside during the cost-cutting sessions, along with the 3rd and 4th USB ports. Your only options are to connect an external microphone or to trade the D725 for a real laptop.

First off, yes, the D915 series of boards all have Audio on board, with Line In (Blue Conn.), Speaker Out (Green Conn.), and Mic (Red Conn.) on the back of the motherboard.

The product manual is available on the intel website:
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d915gav/av_manual.htm

It states that it includes a 6-channel audio subsystem based on the Realtek AL860 audio codec. The manual will eventually take you to the Intel driver download page:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Desktop+Boards&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+915+Express+Chipset+Family+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+D915GAV

The key, I believe to your problem, is to make sure you have:
1. the latest BIOS
2. the latest INF installed
3. the driver set for the ALxxx chipset.

Make 100% sure that within your BIOS that the Audio portion of the board is enabled.

Also, on Page 45 of the manual it speaks of the Front Panel Header (10 pin header between PCI slot and PCIe 1x), and notes the following:
To restore back panel audio, follow these steps:
1. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer. Turn off the computer and
disconnect the AC power cord.
2. Remove the cover.
3. Remove the front panel audio cable.
4. Install a jumper on pins 5-6 (rear R channel).
5. Install a jumper on pins 9-10 (rear L channel).
6. Replace the cover.

Hope this helps.

Please help its case of sound not coming

Dear Neha,
You sure that sound driver is properly installed or not.
You open control panel and click on sound and device, check device volume.
Double click on sound icon that show on system tray, and check balance and volume.
If all things are ok you check your jack (sound port).

My speakers stopped working suddenly

Hello....No Sound, No Volume Control, Mixer not Found, No Sound device installed…etc etc, This is a generic issue with Windows OS....many of the users are facing this issue....
1 - r u facing NO Audio/Sound issue...?
2 - is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

if ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by Microsoft....ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from Microsoft....NOTE..VERY..IMPORTANT...no file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it….

Full solution is available in my website (Support page)...it's quite simple process to fix it, and I am not charging any money, just trying to do some service.
