How to open PS2 slim console? Uncrewed all but still cannot open.
Unscrewed all screws at the bottom and still cannot open. the front console seems to be cliped together & do not know the position to release it. The memory card 2 flap is also out of position. Need to fix it.
Re: How to open PS2 slim console? Uncrewed all but still...
When you have all of the screws out of the case of the system, flip the system right side up and separate the top portion from the bottom, starting the separation from the rear of the system. The top and bottom clip together in the front of the system by the memory card ports, but if you start to separate the case from the rear, it should pop apart easily. You don't have to use alot of force to get the top to come apart from the bottom. Make sure though that before attempting to reassemble the case, check the power button to see if it is seated properly in the little holders on the bottom portion of the case. Then put the top back on, and gently press the top and bottom together to clip the two halves together. Throw the screws back in and you should be good to go!

I was experiencing the same problem on my ps2 slim scph-90004. When I put a game in my ps2 it loads but after some time it just freezes at the same spot.I went to many shops but they dont recognize my problem. Then i open my ps2 slim (Warning:Opening of ps2 my void your warranty) and saw the lens which was not adjusted. SO,if you are experiencing the same problem then use the above method(For slim only).Look at the rod near the lens which has two small clips on it. Open the screws on the clips and take out your ps2 lens.Clean it with a cotton.Set the lens in some different position and load your games .
There are several videos on Youtube on how to replace this laser. However, I would recommend to simply replace your whole system. but if your short on cash, like the rest of us, this will do the job. The model number is located on the back of your PS2. There should be no need for calibration as long as you follow the online instructions.
Hope this helps.
Hi. Try to clean the lens by using a qtip and alcohol. Here's the procedure on how to clean the lens.
Turn the PlayStation 2 over to remove the screw covers. Use the flat head screwdriver to remove the plugs that cover the screws. This reveals several Philips screws. Do not remove them yet. They must be unscrewed in a certain order so that the PS2 opens up properly.
Remove the small screws near the control ports, powerboard and DVD drive using a Phillips screwdriver.
Remove the long screws from the upper right section. This enables you to remove the cover.
Flip the PlayStation 2 over to open it up. Before opening it, ensure the PS2 has had adequate cooldown time. Wait at least one hour after playing the game station before continuing. You do not want to burn yourself on the hot elements within.
Open the PS2 carefully so as not to damage the ribbon inside the console. Lift up the case gently and slide the cover off. Notice the big black box that contains the laser lens and DVD drive unit you need to clean.
Locate four black, small screws holding the black box down. Remove the screws using a Philips screwdriver.
Lift up gently on the cover of the DVD drive. This fully exposes the laser lens.
Dip one cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Gently rub around the edge of the lens with the swab. Look for any greasy residue that may be there and remove it. Remove any fuzz. Use gentle pressure so you do not damage the PlayStation's lens.
Take a dry cotton swab and dry off any liquid left behind. Ensure there are no cotton fibers left behind on the lens.
Reassemble the PlayStation 2. Work backwards from the way in which you disassembled it.
Slim PS2s have to holes on back left and right. The far edges one lower right hand side of the power plug and another on the upper left side of the fan exhaust. Hard not to notice. I've never actually noticed they were screw holes I figured they were just... holes. Hope this helps.
trust me, check that there is no dust in the controller slot, blow into it, it worked brilliantly or me!! also, you can use a DRY cotton bud to take out excess dust, don't ever put anything wet in there!! hope this helps
Your PS2 probably has a dirty laser lens. Below is a procedure for cleaning the lens on the big PS2. It does not work on the Slim PS2. Do not ever use alcohol on a slim PS2 laser lens.
I hope your in the right posting area, this is for the Phat PS2 consoles with the drawer that comes out to put the CD in. Procedure is different for Slim PS2.
Disconnect power and turn the case upside down.
Remove the screw covers to expose the case screws. These are little square pieces or square rubber pads. You can use a thin knife blade to pry the hard plastic squares up.
Remove all the screws.
Remove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
lift the top cover from the back and pull it forward slightly to clear the CD tray. Be careful of a possibly Ribbon cable attached to the lid going to the Reset/Eject buttons. Roll the cover over to the right leaving the ribbon intact.
Remove the CD tray lid.
Polish the Laser lens, and remove any lint or hair from the CD area. Use Alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the laser lens. By the way, Alcohol will damage a PS2 Slim lens. All lens are not created equally.
Hook up the power and A/v Cables.
Remove the little white disc from the CD tray lid.
Place a Disc on the spindle, and cap the disc with the little white piece that you removed from the CD tray cover.
Boot up the PS2 and test it, Continue cleaning until you get it to work.
Put it back together, and you’re in business.
If you have trouble you can send your PS2 to a Repair shop. Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. then choose "Video Game Consoles". Then you pick a Good Repair shop. My shop is listed, but I cannot divulge the name in this forum. Cost will be $25 plus shipping. Shipping is usually $8.95 to the USA
Your Slim has a short circuit somewhere. I run a repair shop for Playstations and what I do is clean the Ciruit board and fan out real good to get rid of Dust and lint. Sometime the dust gets wet someway, and begins to conduct the power. This will cause the Slim to go green for a second and then back red.
Remove the screw covers on the bottom of the slim
Remove the screws, I think I remember 7 screws. At least 6.
Remove any disc
Pop the cover up from the back. Sometimes the Right side will not want to pop loose, but it is ok to force it.
Disassemble the console guts carefully. Do not stand on carpet when working on the motherboard. Stand on wood, Ceramic, or Linoleum.
Clean every speck of dust and lint out of the conole.
REassemble and test.
I hope this works for you. Post another comment to this page and I will repsond. You might want to send it off for repair at www.playstationclinic.com
