Question about Dyson DC18 all floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Dyson DC18 brush beater bar intermittent failure problem.

The brush won't turn, but it's not a failed belt. I've also pressed the 'reset' button on the 'bar head' (down by the floor) and pressed the 'brush' on/off switch multiple times.
It seems there is an electrical connection failing.
Also, when it was first a problem, it came back on while pushing the unit across the carpet (as normal operation) after moving it a few feet - like a rolling jump start. Almost like an electric motor with a bad/old motor.
Then after stopping (putting it 'upright and locked') and using it some more, it wouldn't come on at all.
The unit is not even a year old - any ideas? Particularly electrical, or not 'belt-related'?

Mine did the same thing. When I took it apart I found that the beater brush was stripped out so even though the motor was turning it was not turning the brushes.

Take it in to be serviced. It could be a dead motor to bad connection. 5yr warranty will leave you paying nothing. Best Buy or local authorized service center can do it.

I'm having this same problem. It doesn't sound like the motor is spinning until it kicks on from the push start. I think this is the motor or a connection (more likely the motor because the push starting works).
We've been looking at the replacement power heads. They're expensive ($130). I could replace the motor myself. We'll have to try the warranty approach - we bought it through a discounter though... I don't think we have warranty service with it.

Beater bar isnt working I have replaced motor on dyson dc18

Be sure you are getting power to the brush bar motor. Power comes from the main switch to the brush bar switch, then to the micro switch that activates when the handle is reclined, then to the brush bar motor. Any openings in the circuit will cause the brush bar motor to not work.

Can't activate front brush

Hi Sandy, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC25 has a belt engineered to last the lifetime of the machine. It's protected by a sensor which shuts off the brush bar if something jams it. If your brush bar won't rotate it's likely it just need to be reset. Please follow the steps shown in the video I've attached.

Tip: Once you've checked the cleaner head for obstructions and removed any threads or hair from the brush bar, recline the machine into the vacuuming position. Turn it on with the red on/off switch, then press the silver brush control switch twice.

Please note: The brush bar will never rotate when the machine's standing upright, so make sure you recline it down into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you would like further advice after you've tried this, please get in touch with us directly. You can reach our genuine Dyson experts by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Best wishes,

Beater bar wont reset My beater bar wont turn no matter what I try. I've hit the reset button and still no rotation?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties resetting your DC18's brushbar. Please check that you've followed all the steps shown in the video below. Please also ensure that when testing the cleaner, you have it reclined into the vacuuming position, as the brushbar will not run when the cleaner is standing upright.

If you still cannot get the brushbar to run after following these steps, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can provide further assistance. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

My dyson dc17 amimal's main turbine head is not working, is there a reset button or any other solution? I don't think it is the belt!

Right next to the power switch is a switch that will turn on/off the beater brush. Push firmly on this button and see if that turns it back on. It will turn itself off if it has too much resistance on it from getting tangled in something like a long carpet fiber that wraps itself around the beater brush. Check and make sure it's not bound up by something and then press the on/off button for the beater brush.

BEATER BAR RESET BUTTON?

There is no reset button for the beater bar on the DC07, DC14, DC17 or DC25. If you have a DC18 or DC24 post your question again and I'll tell you where to find the reset button for the brushbar.

If you don't have a DC18 or DC24 call the Dyson Helpline, they will troubleshoot it and try to get your brushbar to spin.

The brush rotates on my dyson slim but there is no suction. though there is suction from the hose... has anyone any ideas????

Un-plug the machine first. Turn the unit over and remove the bottom plate. Check for and remove any debris in, around, or behind the beater bar assembly. While you're in there, look at the beater bar ends where the bearings sit. and clean any debris, hair, etc, from those areas as well.

Dyson 18 slim the rotating brush bar will not rotate. Was working fine until I got the edge of a tablecloth caught in the brush, pulled it out ok but now the brush will not rotate fast, but will rotate by...

If the DC18 has a proteted belt then it will have to be replaced by a Dyson engineer or repairer. If the cleaner has a removable sole plate where the beater bar is then remove it and replace the belt - sounds like the belt has snapped and needs to be replaced. if your DC18 is still relatively new it should still be under guarantee.

Were is brush reset button please

I don't believe the Dyson has a reset button. if the brush doesn't turn when the handle is down then you may have a broken belt. there are 2 belts on the vacuum, the one from motor to clutch can be replaced from under the vac. the belt from brush roll to clutch is not available and must be replaced as a clutch ***'y.
