GEORGE,
HAVE YOU TRIED TO GO TO THE MINOLTA WEBSITE AND ASK CUSTOMER SERVICE IF THEY HAVE MANUALS ONLINE? USUALLY YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE MANUAL FOR YOUR CAMERA. MINOLTA SHOULD ALSO HAVE A TECH SUPPORT SITE THAT MIGHT ALSO BE ABLE TO HELP. I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU A FEW IDEAS AS TO WHERE TO START. I WOULD TRY THE MINOLTA WEBSITE FIRST. IF I CAN HELP MORE, JUST REPLY TO:

Why is the opteka 500mm f8 for minolta/sony not working with my konica minolta maxxum 50

you have to put your camera to manual, and do all settings manually. Be aware there has to be enough light, because of the f8

Only partial picture on frame

it could be a shutter problem. however if it is only when using a flash it would be sync. for flash photography most cameras have a shutter speed that they sync at normally 1/60

Presetting all buttons and dials

This question is answered for you in the 800si user manual. By pressing the program-reset button, marked with a P top right, this will re-set all camera fuctions, but not red eye reduction-data memory-and ISO setting. To turn on red-eye, press the flash-mode button in the inside of door, turn front or rear dial untill a small "eye" appears in data panel. When selected, the flash will fire a series of small bursts before the main burst, causing the pupils to close slightly, so reducing red-eye. To turn off red-eye, select another flash mode. Resetting all custom fuctions, press and hold the ajust button in door of panel, slide main switch to LOCK then return it to ON.

Bad Minolta Maxxum lens?

Oddly enough, the camera and lens are working just fine now - or at least they appear to be. I'll shoot some more when I have good lighting and 1-hour them tomorrow for the results.

When using flash it flashes multiple times when taking picture..strobe flash

Hello
You will find that if the flash pulses slowly several times before taking the main picture you have got the camera set to red eye reduction flash, you will see an eye symbol on the display.

Check the owners manual for the method of changing this to the setting you need.

Flash

What's perfect to you may not be perfect to someone else, That is why this pro grade camera offers so much in the way of adjustments. One doesn't often GET the perfect picture. More often, one must CREATE the perfect picture..

Set the flash at "0" for the most uniform pictures, and try a better lit environment and work in the 4' to 8' range. Generally, your pictures taken outside in good light, with the sun at your back will be the best. The rest, especially flash, often require some manipulation of the environment..I.E. lighting.

A perfect picture requires a perfect subject, perfect pose, perfect foreground lighting, and perfect background lighting.

So, the answer to you question is; there is no perfect setting, which will constantly produce perfect pictures.

Good Luck..

ONline manual from Minolta says "winding motor problem", try removing battery and reinstalling. It didn't work for me though.

Added flash mount

LOLEE, I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT FLASH, BUT I HAVE SOME GENERAL INFO THAT MIGHT HELP. FIRST, IS THIS FLASH USING THE CAMERA " HOT SHOE " MOUNT? IF IT IS, ARE YOU SURE THAT THE FLASH IS FULLY INSERTED IN THE HOT SHOE? NEXT, IS THIS FLASH COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAMERA? YOU SEE, SOMEHOW THE CAMERA IS NOT GETTING THE INFO THAT THE FLASH IS CONNECTED. I WOULD CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS TO BE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT. HOPE THIS GIVES YOU SOME IDEAS TO WORK ON. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, JUST REPLY.

What is the "light" or just red color at the bottom near the "open" the back button of my Minolta Maxxum 5 camera?

Elizabeth,

What you are describing is the film chamber lock indicator. Basically, once a film is loaded, you cannot accidentally (or intentionally!) open the camera until the film has been fully rewound. This is to prevent you ruining a film. The red indicator is just to let you know it's locked.

More details are on page 23 of the camera's manual. If you haven't got one, you can download it from here.

Battery problem

I find that the Nikon 4300 really burns through the batteries when the camera is set to use red-eye correction. This triggers three or so flashes for each picture. I think I get more than 30 red-eye corrected flash pictures on a set of batteries, but probably no more than 50. Taking outdoor shots w/o flash naturally is kinder on the batteries.
