Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook
I am a self taught computer geek- medical microbiologist. I have no technical computer training but have been managing my desktops and laptops over 10 years now.
I have a compaq presario v2000, which when checked on line says 2300cto. OS is xp home. edition version 2002, sp2, intel r pentium 1.6ghz processor, 590 mhz , with 0.99 gb ram, Fujitsu 60 gb hardrive, tsst L 532 cd dvd with light scribe,ac97 modem,
I have an intelpro The problem is suddenly the wep enabled(netgear router) internet connection stopped working while in use, when the laptop restarted came up with F1 to resume or f2 to continue screen.
Or the laptop would just not do anything after power on except the hard disk light would flicker for a while and go off.
I managed to reinstall the xp, get all the software back with the applications and software dvd that came with the laptop.
I tried reinstalls of all kinds, full format after deleting all partitions, repartitioning the drive, fat 32 reinstall and ntfs reinstall with quick and complete formats. I tried complete install with wireless network off and wireless switch on the laptop turned off till complete reinstall etc.
I tried using it with and without macafee antivirus , personal firewall and browser protections.(Exact same os and software environment the laptop was in 3 weeks ago working perfectly fine)
I also tried updating my xp with windows updates, then reinstalling the hp recommended drivers for system enhancements and the other hardware.
I disabled by wep and made it unsecure network so it could connect without encryption. I tried cmos reset by removing the cmos battery, and reinserting it. I had flashed my phoenix bios with the hp recommended 22A winflash utility 8 months ago.
It works a couple of times after complete installation. Suddenly it freezes when surfing the net. When I try to reconnect the use windows to configure my wireless settings -when enabled- fails to repair the connection and the wireless icon disappears completely. When disabled comesup with a warning, windows cannot configure this connection, you have used another software, use that to configure this connection.
I have tried using the TCP ip settings which were working before (-like obtain ip and dns address automatically, and alternateconfiguration- user configured ip address-current setting working on the 2175 laptop)
When I reinstall, the OS the laptop goes into F1 to continue and f2 tosetup mode on restart. F1works then. But when the laptop drops the internet connection or freezes and restarts, I may need to hit f10 to enter bios.
I load setupdefaults and restart, then also many a time i get f1 to continue and f2 to setup. The f2 to setup never works.
When in bios almost always the blue tooth device shows up as enabled, the wireless does sometimes but most of the times it does not show up.
Another thing I noticed was whenever this F1 to continue and f2 to setup comes up with 2 beeps, the boot order goes to floppy- which i donot have.
So I disable floppy and move it down the boot order to 3 with cdrom in 1 or 2 and hd in 2 or 1.
When I get the laptop going by system restore or loading normally or safemode and restore, all software except intelpro 2100,2200,2915 mini pci wireless card, (with blue tooth) PCI, mass storage controller, texas Instruments PCIxx21/ 515 cardbus, and sometimes SDA show up with yellow flags in the device manager. uninstalling them and restarting the computer sometimes gives the wireless connectivity.
All other software work perfectly and the same internet connection encrypted or unencrypted works perfectly fine with my other laptop presario 2175 US.
I tried reinserting the wireless card too, everything works for a while.
Stops soon after.
I repaired the MBR also using repair console.
I use Advance windows care personal v2 cleaner and mcafee quick clean to clean the laptop regularly.
I do notice theres no bridge in the network connections. I have 1394, blue tooth lan and dial up connections there.
I suspect I have a trojan or a virus that shuts the net down , turns off the wireless card and bios fails to load it on restart and this probably makes the laptop go into the f1 to continue and f2 to setup mode?
A complete reinstall after full format should have reset -if its default- from wake up on lan state? I guess this means wireless lan also.
Any help suggestions, solutions, you can give will be deeply appreciated.
