Question about Washing Machines

GE Washer is Leaking, Lost and Confused!

I have a one year old GE top-loading washer. About a month ago I was doing a load of towels, and the basket was shaking violently. I lessened the load, and went on my way. I tell you this, just in case it may help with the situation.

Fast forward to today. I have a RO/DI water purifying system mounted near my washing machine and the waste line drains into the washer and I use it to wash clothes with (recycle!). I was making some purified water and went in to the laundry room to check the status. Upon entering the room, there was water all over the floor. I wasn't even running the washer? I pulled the washer out of the normal space to verify that the water was in fact coming from the washer, and cleaned the floor, but there was so much of it I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Appears to be coming from one of the rear corners. We lifted the machine, and there was water on the underside of the machine.

I attempted to start a load to use the water being stored in the basket, and started the machine. Once the load started and the agitator started doing its job, it basket was making a squeeling sound.

I need to fix this and hoping to be able to find a solution on my own on the internet before calling someone out.

Any thoughts?

Sure. If the machine is less than a year old, call for warranty service, otherwise: If the washer filled on it's own that tells me that the water inlet valve is not or at least did not seal completely, allowing a small amount of water to continue to enter the machine over a period of time and finally fill until the water went out the overflow tube inside the washer. You need to replace the inlet valve. It is the part the water supply hoses connect to at the back of the machine. If you add a comment on the model number I can look up the part number for you.
Now, about the noise: A common noise on GE washers is a errr errr errr noise while agitating especially. If the tub is full of water you can open the lid and move the tub back and forth and make it do this noise while the machine is not even running. To fix that, do this:

  • Use a putty knife to push in on the clips holding the front onto the machine. They are located at the top of the front panel where it meets the washer top, about 2 or 3 inches in from each side.
  • Remove the two 1/4 inch hex drive screws holding the top to the side panels.
  • Remove the washer top. Some models have a lid switch at the back right side which has a disconnect plug. Other models have a switch toward the front right, which you need to push the tab on the back side toward the center of the switch allowing you to push the switch up, twist and pass the switch back through the rectangular hole. You may have to remove a hose on the left side if your model has that as part of the bleach dispenser. Some washer tops need to be lifted up a little and slid to the side just a bit to remove the top.
  • Disengage the tub support rods near the bottom of the tub by lifting on the tub and pushing the nylon part out of the black metal tub supports. Lift the rod up and put a bunch of lithium based grease under the nylon ball at the top of the support rod. Replace the rod and move onto the next rod. (4 in all)
  • Reassemble machine.

How old is my washer? When were these made?

You need a serial number to tell for sure.
They probably stopped making those a few years ago.
And the oldest one I've seen it about 10 years old. So probably between 2-10 years old.

GE Front load washer spinning too slow????

A couple of things come to mind,if the micro-processor senses the load is out of balance enough, it will control the RPMs(reveloutions per minute) or slow it down in order to avoid damage to the suspension system, so readjusting the spin speed manuallly probably would help. Although that machine should be able to handle 9 large towels easily! Next thing, have you cleaned out the trap inside the lower access panel, if it is restricted you will have draining problems. Good luck !

Kenmore top load portable washer, model 110.42722200

i had same prob. at my daughters house, similar model. first time a hose popped off the top(i removed the lid), later i noticed leaks because my son in law was using oxy clean and it foamed over. my advice is, put machine on its side and look for loose/popped off hoses, dont use too much soap or additives, which will trick the water level sensor or just pour over that little drum

Water leaking when when washer is running a large or super load

the leak could be coming from anywhere in the washer it just leaks out from the lowest point of the washer i would suggest placing a putty knife under the top on the right and left side and pushing the tabs in to pop off the front panel to see where the leak is coming from
