Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

WS-55809 TV Won't Come On W/Fault Code 22

Hello, from reading your previous post I have solved and repaired faulty solder contacts in my TV. That was about 6-7 months ago. It worked fine until today when I turned it on and it promptly clicked and shut down. From reading posts and solutions, I figured out how to retrieve the fault codes. It was 22. Reading further I saw where it was told to check fuses F9A04, F9A05. I unsoldered F9A04 and tried to check it. I have "No continuity" one way. The other way I have some continuity. Is this type of fuse different then a normal fuse? or am checking it wrong. I didn't want to unsolder the other fuse if i didn't have to. Furthermore I would like to order a repair manual & parts if I can diagnose the problem. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks

I have a projection television ws 55809 it turn off everytime i try to turn it on i did the test an 22 was the code what is it and how do i fix it

What you have is short protection--it means one of two pico fuses on the middle board is bad and it and the two STK-392-570 chips it uses for convergence are going to have to be replaced and the set adjusted with the Mitsubishi remote.

This can be a do it yourself repair for some people with basic skills and parts cost from a site I know will be under 30 dollars.

In addition I have my own start to finish, step by step instructions for this which are available if you provide a email address.

They tell you everything you will need and precisely how to do the repair. Once you have and read them you can decide if you can do the repair or not--shops usually get over 200 dollars parts and labor for this repair.

I attach a photo of the fuses (on middle board) and what the chips look like (also on middle board at the front)

Mitsubishi 5511 getting a code 22 - short protection fault. How

Code 22 points towards a failure in the convergence section of the TV. You can get a convergence repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com to do the repair yourself.

Color changing while viewing

Sounds like your TV needs new convergence chips.

Go to this web site.

http://www.tvrepairkits.com/xcart/home.php?cat=2653

If you can handle a soldering iron and solder fairly well, then you can do the repair.

Hope this helps.

Red convergence on my ws-55809 is off

The lense adjustment won't help. There are two convergience chips inside, each has 16 pins. If you take the big tray, with all the boards, out and turn it over, you will see that one of the chips has a pin that goes to a contact labeled, "RH." You can't miss the chips, they are stuck to a huge, finned heat sink, about 4'' x 7". Check the continuity from that pin to it's contact with an ohm meter. You may get lucky and get by with simply a re-solder or jump on that pin. Those convergience chips are like computer processors, are subject to extreme heat, depend very heavily on their heat sinks and cooling fins and could easily get hot enough to break a solder connection. Like computer processors, they should have been designed with fans as well as heat sinks. Don't kill yourself. Even unplugged, a tv has enough stored energy to be fatal.

Red and green ghost images on screen. usually appears after tv is warmed up. TV is 8 years old. Is it worth repairing? How much to repair? I have read that it may be problems with convergence chips.

Since the problem comes on with the set warmed up the most likly cause is cold solder joints. This happens because componets heat up and cool down at differant rates and over time cause the solder conectin to break or become intermitant. The simple fix would to get the convergance IC's soldered and while in there solder up the entire high voltage section

22 is short protect usually its the convergence Ics in that model that can short out. check fuses F9A04 and F9A05 if they are open its most likely the convergence ICs that need repslacing. If you need further assistance, please reply to this same post.
