I just bought Mass Effect and Fallout 3 but my DVD drive won't acknowledge either one. As both use SecuRom I was wondering if it might be detecting pieces of Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools not removed when I uninstalled them? I've tried updating my firmware and even cleaning the lense but that didn't work.

- Same here! I never installed any daemon or alcohol or whatever it is you call them but securom is asking to remove it. I bought the Devil May Cry 4 PC and installed it but everytime I try to play it says disc emulator detected please insert the original disc. Well I did install the original disc but securom really pisses me off. And I noticed that the game didn't ask for a CD key? I dont know why and I searched the whole DVD case and its manuall but I didn't find any. I'm wondering maybe that's the cause. help please? thnx - aizes_lustad

This may not be a solution but just reboot your system with the disc inserted in the drive.This generally makes the Boot time much longer but there are 80% chances of your disc being detected. Please try this... Mean while i will come up with a solution. Also are you sure if your drive is compatible with all the DVD formats like +R,-R,+/-R etc..?
