SMC Tiger Stack 8848m

Hi ,

I am a newbie to this world and I have a machine where I have to install some software. It is connected to a SMC Tiger Stack 8848m. I have to reset all the VLAN configurations on this before I can proceed with the installation.

Can anyone please let me know on how to do this?

Thanks & Regards,

    Thanks Nitin,

There is no reset button on the switch , I tried to poweroff and on the swith.

I dont have any manual , but I have seen a managemet guide online. It talks about accessing the switch using CLI. Not sure how to access that.

Remove the power cord from the back of the switch.
Remove all cables from the front panel ports.
Connect port 1 to port 2 on the front panel using a standard patch cable.
Reconnect power to the switch.
Wait at least 40 seconds before disconnecting the patch cable between port 1 and port 2.
After the above is completed, the password will be "smcadmin" and the switch IP will revert to

How to reset a SMCFS8

Gave me the manual. The product you listed is an unmanaged switch not a router. Thus, it doesn't have an web interface. You can try unplugging the device for a while and then retrying to connect to your firewall/router/local network. Also check if your computer will connect to the network without the switch. If you can connect directly without the switch, check if your product is still under warranty.

SMC ethernz problem

Typically you will connect your router to port 1 of the switch. Unless you have a port that is labeled WAN or Uplink. Then you would use that.

Daisy chain is when you have multiple switches connected to eachother. So it would be router to port 1 computers on ports 2-15, port 16 would connect to port 1 on another switch, and so on.

Adding a PC to the network

Make sure your network card on the computer is enabled and properly installed. Also try replacing the cable with one that is known to be good. I hope this helps. Good luck.
