If you are using any set top box, change the audio cables if the signal is anything other than coax cables. Make sure the cables are well seated.
Are you connecting to external speakers or trying to use the internal speakers? Make sure nothing is connected to the headphone jack. (With many models, it will trigger an automatic shut down of the internal speakers.) Next check that the audio is enabled in your menu.
Finally, if the problem is the internal speakers, then the speakers have a wiring problem or a speaker problem. Many speakers can be replaced. See a shop like shopjimmy.com (selling parts from damaged TVs) or partstore.com. Alternatively, see the manufacturer's parts store.
I have had on order since December 2007 the Akai replacement remote #WIR3500001-EQ01 the Akai TV/DVD combo model #CFTD2011. I called each month for 5 months, being told each time that it was on backorder. A few days ago, I received a letter in the mail stating that this remote is no longer made and is not available.
I too have tried universal remotes without any luck. If anyone has a resolution, it would be greatly appreciated.
