Question about Mitsubishi WS-55857 55" Rear Projection Television

Power but no picture or sound

Have had this tv for about 6 years now with no problems. Had work done on my house and didn't have tv on for about 6 months. Lots of dust from contractor so I covered tv with plastic to prevent dust getting in. Once turned tv back on, worked fine for about 2 wks. Then, all of a sudden, it turned on and immediately turned off. Was advised by a service tech to unplug it off for about 24 hours and then try it again. After 24 hrs, it turned back on (and it will turn off), but no picture or sound. I assume there are some capacitor or other issues and that I will need to have it serviced. My questions are: 1) what is are the likely parts that will need to be replaced and 2)could dust could have initiated this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Power but no picture or sound

I recently just experianced the exact same thing. I had a service tech come out and he told me that one of the tubes leaked. It destroyed one of the boards and he said that you can not get the tubes anymore. So I guess I just throw this awesome tv away.

Re: Power but no picture or sound

Is hard to tell if the set is going to need parts or not, maybe not, since you protected the set from dust is not likely the cause of the problem, after a while the units develop loose conections because of the heat dissipation some components have and the solder conections become loose.Be safe and seek assistance if you are not too familiar with tv service.

Samsung DLP TV, no picture, has sound

Try replacing the ballast next. Its the small circuit board directly underneath the lamp housing. You can access it through the lamp door. If the ballast is overheating or has a leaking capacitor, the tv won't stay lit for more than a minute or two.

Loud electrical sounds

It sounds like the Power transistor that drives the High Voltage Transformer shorted out. The rapid clicking sound you are hearing when pressing the power button now is that of the power supply starting to come up, detecting a short circuit and shutting back off again, preventing further damage. It is likely that the HV Transformer is shorted as well which usually causes the Output transistor to fail. Since the set is only 2 1/2 years old, it is probably worthwhile getting it to a repair shop as long as you have been very satisfied with the picture quality up to this point. If the picture size was larger than you needed, you might consider going down to a 37" LCD HDTV set. Toshiba is tops in this category IMHO.
