I was cooking a roast and the lid shattered and left glass in my food.
I went to pick up lid and handle completely came off. Is their any kind
of guarantee after ruining my meal.
While food was cooking in my Rival 38501 the black handle cracked and now I am left with a glass lid that is hard to take on and off. This happened the 2nd or 3rd time I used the crock pot. Forget about taking the crock pot to a pitch-in becaue it is too much trouble to open and close. Our Rival 38501 lid did the same thing! Picked the lid up off of the pot and the plastic handle detached from the glass and fell to the floor shattering in pieces. :(Our Rival 38501 lid did the same thing! Your crockpot heat unit is overheating. Return it to the store you purchased it at or contact the manufacturer. My Rival did that and I contacted the company and they sent me a new one.
I had a similar shattering experience cooking adzuki beans on low, though I'd left them alone during the day. The lid was intact and unscratched to the best of my knowledge. Have others experienced this problem?
For what it's worth, when the handle on my mother-in-law's crockpot broke, I went to Home Depot and bought a cheap wooden drawer knob (about $1 as I recall). I put a plastic washer between the knob and the glass and another under the screw head from the bottom (to prevent cracking the lid), tightened the screw and good as new.
I am Jo Anne Gomez who posted original problem and thought the problem was resolved with husband putting on a knob he found at the hardware store. Just wanted to let you all know that the handle we thought would solve the problem DID NOT....after he replaced the knob and we did another roast in it the lid totally shattered after we'd cooked another roast (luckily the glass did not get into the food), however, this is just a BAD PROBLEM and these lids should ALL be recalled. I have seen, just recently, the exact same crock pot and lid being sold for much less. I think that these crock pots should not even be sold but taken off the market to prevent lawsuits or horrible problems. Just wanted to let you know our solution did not work and Rival was not helpful at all.
No, dont throw it away!!! You can use tin foil as a lid - I do this all the time as my lid shattered too and it works perfectly. You dont have to adjust times or anything.
I went to Home Depot and picked out a nice little round cabinet handle. Took a small wood screw and plastic washer (milk jug plastic) and installed it. Plastic washer goes between screw and glass lid from inside. Years later still works, but untreated wood handle is cracked. But still works!
