Question about Maytag MMV1153A Microwave Oven

MMV1153BAW - Exhaust Fan

Our microwave is new - purchased in July. The exhaust fan sounds like it's working but it is not drawing any steam from the stove top. We had the supervisor of our installer look it over and he says everything is hooked up correctly. How do we fix this problem?

    Dear Sir,
I have the same problem on a general electric Model VM230WL 002.
    SER # 97046S.
It has been installed since 1994. The fan makes lots of noise like its running, but no suction. I have checked the filters. It has solid steel ducts heading up and vents out the eve of the house. Seems there should be a damper that is not working. Where do i find this damper.
    Thank you,
    Bob P.

You or the installer should refer to both the installation instructions and owner's manual to be sure the venting is correct, the filters are not clogged, and the outside exhaust is not blocked, such as by an animal nest.

Proper cooktop ventilation is very important to keep the microwave cool and keep steam and grease out of the controls.

I purchased this microwave a few years ago but not until I bought a new stove did I notice that the exhaust fan does not draw the moisture up the chimney. The fan works, but nothing is being drawn up.

Jean, there's little information in your query, so I'll have to guess...

Many "microwave hood" combinations can be used as "recirculating" or as actual exhaust. It sounds like yours is set to recirculate. I don't know what make/model you have, but you might look in the documentation that came with it for how to switch it over.

Controls, heating and turntable function normally, but there is an intermittent failure (approx 80 of the time) where the interior light and blower do not function when the microwave is operating .

follow this test and fix it; God bless you
1)

  1. Light bulbIf your microwave light bulb is not working, perhaps it has blown. The first step is to replace the bulb and power on the microwave. If this does not correct the issue, the next step is to check the socket and wiring to verify if that is the problem.
  2. Light bulb socket & main control boardIf your microwave light bulb is not working after the installation of a new bulb, check the light socket as well as the wiring to ensure they are properly operating. If these sources are functioning properly, the next step is to check for a faulty control board as a possible root cause to your microwave light bulb malfunction.
2)
  1. Exhaust fan motorIf your exhaust fan motor is not running, there are a couple of things that you can check involving the motor to locate the problem. After removing the fan motor, you can manually attempt to turn the fan blades with your hand. If the fan motor is working properly, the blades should spin effortlessly. If this does not occur and the blades are taught, the motor will need to be replaced. Secondly, the fan motor itself can burn out due to time and usage. Using an ohm meter, the exhaust fan motor should read open for continuity. If it does not, then the fan motor has expired and will need to be replaced.
  2. ThermostatAnother part that could cause the microwave exhaust fan to not work is a faulty thermostat. A thermostat gauges the air temperature, which activates the exhaust fan when required. If this part becomes flawed, the exhaust fan will not energize and the thermostat will need to be replaced.
  3. Main control boardIf your exhaust fan is still not working and the microwave fan motor, wiring, and thermostat are operating accurately, the root cause could be with the main control board. Replace the main control board.

Ge spacemakerxl microwave jvm1650 vent is not drawing air

It is possible, you have removed and checked the filters, still the intake is low even without the protective filters. The system will need to be taken apart to find the opstruction, or as you said a hole in the venting mechanism.

Noise of microwave exhaust fan

You can remove the exhaust turbine unit with one screw and reinstall microwave and buy a braun external exhaust unit that fits over the hole where it is at the roof or wall and all of the noise will be outside and it will actually work. It is weather proof and will **** steam or fumes out like the best vacuum cleaner.

Exhaust Doesn't Work

Do you hear the exhaust fan running? If so, then the grease filter may be clogged, or the exahust ducts from the oven to the outdoors may be blocked. Sometimes there will be an animal nest inside the duct near the outside wall. If the fan is not running, you may have a problem with the exhaust fan or with the control circuit board, which we repair for $39.95 nationwide. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk If you still have questions, please feel free to follow up here or by e-mail. In all my years, I've never heard of this. You would not want the grease and steam to go into the works. Can you give some more specific detail on what those others have told you?
