Ok, so I did as you suggested, and it took all this time, (this computer is so slow since we installed the internet in mid Sep). However, I got an error message near the end of the installation process, after I plugged the device back in as directed, it was installing and then I got a message something like: Could not install hardware, printer driver is unknown, and then Device Setup was unsuccessful, may not run properly. ?????

Hello, Hello, is anyone home? I'm still trying to solve my printer problem, but no-one seems to be answering my questions.

Ok, so I unplugged the psc 2110 from computer (usb port) uninstalled printer software, then reinstalled printer software and when prompted to plug the printer back in, I did so. But after a little while this error message came up. "Cannot install this hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware. hp psc 2110 series. An error occurred during the installation of the device. Printer driver is unknown. Now what??????

    What is SP2 or SP3?

  • mommyluvs6 Nov 03, 2008

Every time I click on the download button to download this driver, it just sits on my computer screen and looks like nothing is happening.

Resolution for “Cannot Install this hardware, Printer Driver Unknown”

Install the S/W first – Do Not Plug the USB cable
After completing the S/W installation, Click Start -> Run -> type MSCONFIG
Click on the Services Tab
Put a check mark on “Hide All Microsoft Services”
Then Click on “Disable All” on the same screen
Click Apply, Ok, Restart
Restart the computer
Now connect the USB cable, should install fine from there
Go back to MSCONFIG and on the general tab select “Normal Start Up”
Restart the computer, try to print. . .

Rationale : This problem could be because of a Non Microsoft service influencing the Plug and play service, thus having some negative impact on it.

Ultimately this results improper USB enumeration and unsuccessful driver installation.

If this doesn't work, then try disabling your security systems and let me know what happens and we can work from there

If you haven't tried yet to install using the software from HP web site , I will advice you to download the latest software for this printer and install this one instead of using the setup CD of the printer, go to this link for the latest software http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=79495&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=295848&taskId=135

You have not mentioned the OS you are using. May be the drivers provided by the manufacturer are not supported by the Operating system you are using..... Ok, anway assuming you are using XP proffesional, Just uninstall the software using the control panel and then restart the system.Just check the Device manager and uninstall any loaded drivers for the printer. Then rebbot and reinstall the software again. If this doesnt work, enter the website www.driverguide.com  or  www.officialdrivers.com where your system will be scanned for appropriate drivers and then will be automatically installed for free. Definetly this is a driver problem. Let me know if this helps.

SP1 and SP2 stands for Service Pack 1 and Service Pack2. Click start-right click on My computer and go to properties. You will get to know from there.

    You can download from www.microsoft.com

Remove the software, then unplug the printer from the computer, then reboot the computer, then reload the software drivers, then plug the printer cable back in when prompted to, then you should be able to print.

When you remove the software, use the "add/remove programs" in the control panel.

Try checking on the HP website for an updated driver for your operating system. Here is a link to it.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...

You can copy and paste it into your address bar of the internet browser if it is not a clickable link.
Hilite the entire link and then right click and then choose copy. Then just open a new tab in your browser and click on the address bar at the top and right click and choose paste. Then hit enter or the arrow to the right of the browser. You will come to a page with a choice of operating systems, just click on yours.

Then you will need to do it all over again from scratch. I am sorry about that, but there is no other way, you must remove the old software first before installing the new. You may just have the wrong software for your operating system.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I am busy today and can not just sit at my computer and wait for an email, I hope you can understand. I am not ignoring you.

You have never told anyboby what operating system you have. "SP2" is "Service pack 2" and "SP3" is "Service pack 3" for Windows XP operating system. All of the experts here are just assuming that you are using Windows XP because you have not told anybody otherwise and it is the most used operating system. You ocan get the updates you need from www.microsoft.com and it is a good idea to keep your computer up to date.

Try clicking this link for an updated driver, just select your operating system from the list to get it.

Once you select your operating system, you will get a page that has all the software downloads for your product, including the driver, patches, utilities, and firmware upgrade for it as well. Just follow the instructions given to do all of these properly.

Hp psc 2110 won't work in vista

Vista has the drivers for the HP psc 2110 embedded in the OS.

So, you should be able to print, with the default drivers. But, you will not be able to scan as of right now, unless someone releases an update for the HP PSC scanning software. I doubt that will happen, as these all in one's are so old.

Such a good little printer/ scanner/ copier too.. kind of sad to think its that obsolete that its not compatible for scanning.
