no it is not leaking. the ice tray is full of water and freezes that way. it is just putting too much water in the tray overflowing.

what controlls the 4oz of water??? the valve or something in the icemaker?

  • zerogee Nov 03, 2008

i just did a test. i placed a 16oz bottle over the in-fill tube and it almost completely filled the bottle. i would say it has 12oz of water. so back to my orginal question, what controls the water valve, something in the icemaker or is the vavle set to deliver a set amount of water only???

  • jonesteague Nov 06, 2008

Mine does the same, but I was wondering what controls the valve opening and closing, a timer?. If the valve was not closing completely, wouldn't it leak through all the time?

  • zerogee Nov 07, 2008

well i changed the water valve but it still is putting out too much water. so, what is my next option??? buy a new icemaker??? is there any way to reset the icemaker?? i would really hate to buy a new icemaker when that one is working ok execpt for the water. i'm open to any suggestions??

For the past 2 weeks the ice cube molds have been over-filled, the extra water has been freezing in a cascade form into the ice holder. The amount of extra water has gradually increasing. Where is the timer forthe water inlet valve?

model # 9515511 Kenmore Coldspot-- Icemaker quit working, and I took cover off, tapped the wheel and it started turning. Everything worked fine until it was time for the water filler to fill tray up again. It started filling and wouldn't stop. I had to tap (lightly) the wheel again, and it proceeded to stop the water and act normal. Whats the problem?

I just put on a new water valve, and now get too much water in the tray each cycle. The rest flows into the tray and freezes all the ice together. How do I control the amount of water? What makes it shut off when full?

  • Debbie Jan 14, 2009

I have an older Kitchenaid fridge, and the icemaker just started doing this same thing. . .too much water in the cube tray, so the ice doesn't pop out more than once or twice a day, and when it does, new water overflows and runs into the rest of the freezer. If you can figure out what the problem is, please let me know, as I don't really have the money to buy a new icemaker at this point. Thanks~

zerogge it looks like the wtr valve is not closing on time repl it it should only stay open long enough to fill mold with 4 to 5 oz no more than that

Ice in freezer bottom

2 things:-1)Freezer door does not close completely, leving a gap allowing outside air to come in and te humidity causes water to freeze at the bottom of the freezer. This would explainwhy is forming over 2 days.
2)If your fidge has a ice maker in the freezer and a cold water dispemser, the both these compartments water flow for the ice &for dispenser are controlled by a solenoid valve, which in turn uses a sensor to detect the quantity of water in the ice maker trays and switces off the wster supply appropriately. If the sensor in the icemaker fails to detect the right quantity, overflows very slowly so as to appear to be noticeable..............sdeep

Freezer and icemaker freezes, jams.

I have run into this before and found it very helpful to re-level the refrigerator. By leaning the fridge back toward the wall about an inch helped keep the water and ice in the tray. Remember to remove items that block air flow in the freezer. Remove the ice bin and clean it then start over with the fridge leaning back a little. Hope this helps.

Water over flow

Depends on the model. It could be a water switch that is sticking or a motor in the icemaker running to slow. My advise is to replace the faceplate of the icemaker. Part #150

Too much water getting to ice maker

The little cup that sits in front of the hose that dispenses the water, has frozen water in it . Check that first and if it's OK, then there is a small screw that you can adjust, look at your manual.

Water wont flow into LG LX259602b ice maker

You may have a bad water valve.  The valve has 2 sections, one for the water dispenser and the other for the ice maker.  Check those connections in the back of the refrigerator.  If everything is ok, replace the water valve.

Ice maker overflows with water

yes, in fact the icemaker does meter the amount of water delivered to the icemaker, the valve should only be energized for 7 seconds. after that the power is cut off, so if valve continues to let water flow, it's bad (might have debris from water line keeping it open. unserviceable. )
