Question about Abit AB9 Pro Motherboard
This board is notoriously fussy about its PCI Express, when running Vista. Sometimes you can boot the machine from cold and there is no display at all, even with a brand new out of the box PCI-X card.
then at other times you can boot it and it will only boot if "Failsafe Options" is selected from the BIOS
Using a normal and better in my opinion standard PCI card resolves the problem to some extent.
The PCI-X on this board really sucks - don't buy it unless you want to spend a lot of money of finding a PCI-X card that will work reliably for a period of time, or stick with the well tried and tested normal PCI graphics adapter. DOn't expect to much help from ABit either. I tried that one too.
I now have a customer with a machine which sometimes works and sometimes does not. The board is only a year old and so far we have experimented with 4 graphics PCI-X cards all with the same result.
Recently we have experimented with changiung the power options in Vista to see if that helps.
Best bet stick tyo ASUS motherboards, you don't get the problem.
I have the same board - no problems - the video card I'm using is eVga Nvidia 8600GT.
