Question about Apple iPod MA446LL/A MP3 Player

Ipod help Well, i've been searching the internet about this for like, two hours, and i can't figure it out, so i came here. I have a 30GB ipod video that was given to me because it doesn't work. they gave me no information on why it doesn't work, just doesn't. i went and bought a cord for it to plug it in to my computer to charge it because the battery was completely dead, and its been charging for a little over an hour now, and sometimes during the charge, it displays the apple and the backlight is on, and sometimes it displays the charging icon, and no backlight.. i unplugged it to see if i could see a problem with it when it has its charge, and from power off, it : Starts up, shows the apple logo, backlight on, stays for a bit.... then it clicks, and the screen turns off and just has a bunch of lines on it that slowly fade away, i've tried holding menu and select to "reset" it and it just does the same thing... also, since the battery was all the way dead when i got it, i tried that whole battery dead reset too. obviously the LCD works because i can see the apple sign perfect when backlit. when its plugged in i can't seem to do anything so, i dunno. i don't have the software installed on my computer because, i figure if the ipod won't turn on then i don't really need to trouble myself with it. any ideas? EDIT: I just turned it on and actually listened to the unit itself, and i can hear the hard drive seeking, and then pulling back kind of. like, click click click errr.. type thing. so maybe its a bad hard drive?

It could be but then you can reset it using itunes. Try downloading itunes here

http://www.apple.com/itunes/ it will have updated drivers for the ipod too. Run itunes on your computer. Once it has downloaded onto your computer successfully, plug the ipod back in to the computer (make sure that it is turned on). This should automatically open itunes. Once itunes is opened and hopefully has recognised your ipod. Go to your ipod settings from there and restore it.
If this works for you, you can then copy your music onto itunes and build yourself a library to sync with your ipod.

I hope this helps

What has happened is the LCD screen on the iPod broke in those places. Its just like breaking a computer screen it doesn't break all of it just parts of it. Here is how to fix it but it will cost a few bucks.

You may reset or restore your iPod for a try, this can fix many general iPod problems. Or you may take a look at this iPod FAQ, it's informative.

If it doesn't work, you can contact Apple technical support for help.

Ipod 30gb does not go "Do not disconnect"!

put it on a charger overnite, or for at least 4 hours. if u can help it, DO NOT use ur cp as a charger. After u do this it should go to "do not disconnect" the next time you plug it in to your computer.
:) hope this helps, tell me if you have any more problems, or if this doesnt help. Thanks :)

Just deleted 20 hours from my iPod, still receiving message full

I'm not a big ipod fan, but look at them from time to time for friends and clients. I think once you delete the files, you also need to delete the play list of which the files are associated with, they also hold the database intact.

Trust that helps.

Unlock my ipod

I assume the unlocking your ipod is the combination that locks the screen and not the little white tab on the top of the iPod. By plugging the iPod into itunes it should unlock it. By restoring your iPod you erase the lock but also your music. If may stay unlocked when you remove it from the computer. Good luck.
