I need to connect a external cdrom to a netbook that only has a usb connection, need wiring diagram or pinout?

Connect the external CD-ROM drive to the computer using the appropriatecable. Most modern drives will use a USB cable but some older ones may use aserial or parallel cable for this connection. The cable, regardless of type, will only connect in one way and should not be forced. If the external CD-ROMdrive has a separate power supply, connect that at this time as well to anelectrical outlet.
Power up the computer as you normally would. Depending on your operating systemand the make and model of the drive you are installing, the system mayrecognize and install the appropriate drivers for you. If this happens you willbe notified with a pop-up window or message box.Install the manufacturer's drivers for the external CD-ROM drive. This isrecommended even if your operating system found the device and installedgeneric drivers for you. This will help optimize the use of the device withyour system.
Reboot the computer system to ensure that all drivers have completed theinstallation process and that the operating system recognizes the externalCD-ROM drive. You can now test the drive by inserting a CD-ROM and trying toaccess it through the My Computer icon on your desktop.

My d610 does not recognize my cd drive

Is the USB-compatible drive recognized when connected to some other computer? If OK, then the drive is OK.

Is _ANY_ USB device (memory-stick, camera, mouse, keyboard, printer) recognized when connected to any of the USB ports on your computer?
If not, then the USB device-drivers for Windows have not been loaded.

Drastic: backup all your data files, bookmarks, and music, to an external hard-drive, and reinstall Windows from the Dell-provided "System Restore" set of CD-ROMs.

My toshiba satellite laptop does not recognize the cd-dvd player

Open up the Device Manager, right-click on the computer name and select Scan for hardware changes in the context menu. The system will attempt to re-detect all of your hardware. It should add the optical drive during this process (which will take several minutes). If it doesn't, your drive may be defective.

Hi, What exactly happens when you plug in the USB cable into laptop and turn on the printer? Does any window pop up that says "New hardware found?" Or if you check in the device manager list, is there a yellow question mark in there anwhere. To check for this question mark, -Right click on My Computer -Select Hardware -Click on Device Manager In this window is where the yellow question mark would be. If there is one, this means that your laptop does recognize the printer but have not installed the driver cd as yet. However, the CD that comes with the printer is not for Windows Vista. To get the drivers for vista you have to go to the drivers and downloads page of http://www.lexmark.com website and download the vista driver. If none of the above happens and this does not work then it might be another problem. Let me know what happens. Lolita

Laptop doesn't recognize my printer

unusual not to be recognised, assuming you have followed the instructions word for word, eg not connected the printer until told to etc, you may have a problem with the usb port and not the printer, so to illiminate this try installing in a different usb port. Also try this driver from the Samsung web site http://www.samsung.com/Products/PrinterandMultifunction/BlackWhiteLaserPrintersforHomeandHomeOffice/ML_2010XAA.asp If still no luck then it's either the printer or a usb port problem, to illiminate the usb fault, go to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager> and go down the bottom of the list to usb controllers, click on '+' sign, right click and select uninstall. Restart pc and all the usb controllers will be re installed automatically. Try the printer again, if still not installing the fault must be the printer.
