Question about Standard (CRT) Televisions

1 Answer

Blinking picture Hello Premtech. I hope you reply to me. I believe you are one of the best if not the best on this site. My tv used to blink on standby about 10 times before clicking on, with no blinking picture on and off about two months ago. Now standby blinking has been increasing to about 120+ times when cold less when hot before clicking on, with picture blinking on and off all the time now. The brighter the picture the more frequently the blinking about every 2-4 seconds. With the brightness turned all the way down and a darker tv picture over all, the blinking would stop or blink a lot less frequently until a brighter picture came back up. The picture quality is still great like new and can't afford another tv. I'm tired of keeping picture dark and blinking all day long when brighter pictures come on. On PCB on back of tube I've turned up RV1791 screw adjustment a little before horizontal lines show up, but picture still blinks just a little less frequently. I resoldered 7 bad solder joints on resistors and other joints next to flyback transformer. I'm still getting blinking picture problem. Please help me pinpoint specific components and where to check and replace on PCBs. THANKS

Guess I should have looked throught the next couple of posts... The problem you have there you will not be able to repair yourself but a good shop can fix it temporarily. The CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) or picture tube is shorted, that's what is causing your blinking. You can call around and ask a shop locally if they can rejuvenate it for you using a crt analyser. In the shop here we use a BK467 which would fix the problem for awhile. What they will do is take the back off and hook-up the analyser and remove the short temporarily. That fix could last weeks or even months, in most cases though never more than a year. Turn the RV1791 back down, it has nothing to do with the G2 voltage and you don't want to overdrive the crt anyway. Take it back down until the horz. lines disappear in dark scenes or background. Then take it in and have the picture tube rejuvenated. Then start shopping for a new Tv... You'll need one eventually but this will buy you a little more time.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Hello, My elderly Mom has a Trinitron KV-32S10 tv and the stand-by light is continuously blinking and there is no picture, but there is sound. I have unplugged the tv and waited 2 minutes and plugged back...

The blinking light is the fault code to enable the engineer to have a good guess at where the fault area lies.
Count the blinks and tell a Sony repair shop, they will have a good idea of the cost.
Hope that helps.

Hello, I try to help. But your questions not spesific.
Below are conditions lamp indicators that appear blinking and solutions:

1. If Timer and Lamp blinking --> Auto timer on/off was been set, picture will appear ~ 25 second.
2. If Timer and Standby/Temp blinking --> A cooling fan inside the set is not operating properly.
3. If Lamp and Standby/Temp blinking --> The lamp cover on the rear of the set is not installed properly.

I hope that solve your problem.
Thanks.
