Question about HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have to unplug all USB devices for my printer to print - and have to power cycle, etc.

Here's info on my laptop:

OS: Windows XP Home v. 2002 s
CPU/Ram: Intel Pentium M Processor
Model/Manufacturer: HP Pavilion dv1000

Here's a log I kept of the problems I've had with the printer:

2008-10-24
after I finished installing the printer - it detected the device again and installed a new printer - a copy of the previous one..

2008-10-19
even when I had all the other USB devices unplugged it printed maybe one sheet and then started printing just a little bit of one paper and then shooting off to the next page and just consuming paper - very weird - printing and wasting lots of paper.

2008-10-19
It seems to work as long as I have the USB mouse unplugged and the USB mp3 player unplugged....strange... like it literally started printing once I unplugged the USB mouse

2008-10-10
I had to unplug and replub in the USB cord for the printer for it to start printing... (?) -

2008-08-20
When I plugged in my printer just now it made '4' bell sounds - and it also interrupts Napster from working - like the USB ports conflict with each other or something.....

2008-08-19
I'm having problems with the USB where it will constantly make noise as though I'm plugging it in and then unplugging it - and I don't recall that problem happening when I've had previous printers - or I just feel like this printer may be faulty somehow (I bought it from Radioshack) or mabye because I'm using a laptop something on the motherboard is just crapping out on me - who knows....

I think maybe my mother board is bad - maybe an issue with the laptop USB.... I might just buy a cheap printer and test it out...a non-usb one maybe.

HP LaserJet 2430 Printer Will Not Print since USB Power Surge Error

INSUFFICIENT POWER - USB PORT
If you get an error message "Insufficient power to operate USB device" when you plug a USB device into the computer's USB port or the un-powered USB hub that is attached to the computer's USB port, then this device is drawing excessive current that the USB port cannot supply. The maximum output from an USB port is 500mA. In case such as this, you need to purchased a powered USB hub and connect this hub into the computer's USB port and then connect the USB device into this powered USB hub.

My epson stylus tx 121 doesn't print..... it says ur printer s not ready... but everything s ryt at my end.... i need some solutions

First how are you connecting to the printer? Is it a direct USB connectionor are you using a USB hub or print server (sometimes part of a router)? If a USB hub is in use, is it a USB powered hub or a self-powered hub (AC adapter)? (Make sure that the printer has power and is turned on. Also make sure that you have printed and scanned a calibration )

If you are not using a direct connection, try a direct USB connection. Use a different USB cable and try different ports (some ports have lower power throughput than others). Make sure that you have the correct driver for your OS. (The full software is useful for other issues.) See http://www.epson.com.ph/epson_philippines/printers_and_all_in_ones/inkjet/product.page?product_name=Epson_Stylus_TX121 for the drivers.

Try uninstalling the current printer driver and then disconnect your data cable (USB). For Windows, press Start and open the Devices and Hardware control panel (Printers and Faxes in XP) from the right hand column. Right click on the printer and select Uninstall (or left click and choose Uninstall from the Menu bar). Reboot the computer and install the Epson printer driver before reconnecting the USB cable. (Otherwise you can get the OS driver that may not work as well.) Remove your data cable from both the computer and the printer and turn off both devices. Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet. Wait a few minutes before reconnecting the power. (This will reset most printers if there is an error in the printer itself.)

If you are using a print server and the direct connection worked, check the installation information for using the print server. Not all printers are compatible with certain print server drivers and you can have a conflict.

If a direct connection to any of your computer's USB ports does not work, check if other USB devices work. If not, try updating or uninstalling your USB controller (in the Device Manager for Windows - Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager, scroll down to the Univeral Serial Bus controllers). Then reboot your machine and see if the correct driver installs. Alternatively, check your computer manufacturer and see if there is an update for your USB driver.)

If the problems persist, you may have a bad USB port on the printer. Please add a comment with the type of connection between the computer and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Kodak 5300 all in one printer will not scan. Cannot get on line with 5300 a10 home center program, tells me printer is not connected

try to unplug replug the usb cable of the printer.

You may also go to control panel printer and faxes and look for the printer of your 5300 now if you see 2 icons delete them both then exit to printer and faxes. and unplug/replug your USB cable then restart computer.

If this issue not solve try to uninstall the software and download the clearutility kodak.com/go/clear. then after doing this restart computer.

There is no computer connection

If it is connected with a USB then you should try to refresh all the connections. Unplug the printer while it is on and then unplug the USB from both the printer and the computer. Wait 30 seconds. Plug the printer in directly to the wall outlet as opposed to a surge protector or a power strip to make sure it is not a power issue. Then when it is on and finished moving around plug USB into the printer first and then into the computer.

Then you may need to delete and readd the printer but try to print a job first and see if the same error comes up. I can tell you how to delete and readd but I have no idea what type of computer or OS you are using. Mac 10.4? Windows XP?
