Question about Filter Queen Majestic Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Carbon brush type

HI
I have a filter queen model 700 vacume I perchased quite some time ago and it has worked flawlessly till recently when it stopped coming on when we hit the switch being a welder/fabricater by trade I am quite machanicly inclined so I took it apart and checked power cable with my volt meter and it was fine I then checked the on off switch with my meter and it turned oout to be just fine I then put the meter on the brush conections and the power made it's way to there I then losened the brush assembly and pushed them in a bit and retightened them and away she went so I therefore know it's the brushes the only problem is I can't find a number on the motor or the brushes I saw online brushes for ametek vacuum cleaner motors which look stikingly simular but I can't be sure and I hate to order them and have them arrive the wronge ones could any one assiste me with a part # for the brushes If I even had a # for the motor I could use it to find the brushes.

any help would eliminate any guesse work and be greatly appreciated.

    Hi defrankond

Thanks for the reply, when you sent your message it reminded me that I had to fix that vac, shortly after I posted I went online and found a site where there was pictures of all sorts of amtek lamb motors that are used in filter queen vacs and other things one looked exactly like mine so I downloaded a parts diagram (schematic) in a pdf file from there I jotted down the part # for the brushes. I did it all from this site http://www.lighthouseenterprises.us/

I found all the brushes you could Imagine for amtek lamb vac motors I ordered some from there (Two 3332651 Ametek/Lamb brushes) they even had pictures so you could match the brushes. I ordered, recieved and installed all for $15.00 usd now that's a lot cheaper then a motor or a motor overhaul I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to go that route but do realise i may have had to. That site has everything you need for filter queen motors old and new check it out some time. I hope this can help someone out someday. thanks for the sites though defrankond I'm sure they'll come in handy in the futur.

happy holidays to you and yours and again thanks for the reply.

Zarico the brushes will be very difficult to find on that particular unit. unfortunatly the only way to resolve this issue is to update the motor itself. i can help you find a cheep alternative. being as all filter queens are on the same design you can replace the motor itself or update the entire top motor portion. here are a few links to try and help you out with your problem. http://cgi.ebay.com/FILTER-QUEEN-MAJESTIC-LTD-ED-MOTOR-UNIT-ONLY-PERFECT_W0QQitemZ390011060044QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item390011060044&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

im glad to find that you were able to fid a company that had the brushes. usually most vacuum stores can order them as well but they usually stick you with a premium price.

Carbon brushes on ME-48 power head motor worn out. Where can I get replacement brushes? Motor is O 90197X7, Lamb, Model 118173-73 - 240V 50/60Hz

Hi Les,

Most sites sell only the motor.
Here's a website that includes motor brushes: http://www.kleen-ritecorp.com/search.aspx?IsSubmit=true&searchTerm=lamb+motor&gclid=CIbZ59zwiKgCFQprKgod8W2itQ

Hope you can find the right brushes.

I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

I have a Vacu Queen V3000 and it stopped working in the middle of a job. I verified that I have power at the outlet that it plugs into and then checked motor resistance from the plug and I got about 600...

As a quick test Plug in the vac again and turn on the switch, then try your power head. If the head works you have a motor problem, if the head doesn't you likely have a cord problem.
You seem to be saying it failed while running??? which generally indicates your switch is the suspect.
Check the motor for a worn or sticking carbon brush.
Motor is access by removing the chrome lid and 3 screws under the handle., then removing the paper cone and unscrewing the center screw a t he bottom of the plastic.cone cage...

There is very little power and lots of sparking from the brushes on a Filter Queen motor out of Model 95.

Your motor needs major work. The brushes are probably the cause. My presumption is the armature is burned.

You may be able to get a replacement from Filter Queen and it is worth a e-mail to them.

Alternatively, you might find a replacement at a Fixya.com advertiser or at www.repairclinic.com

Motor Brush for older model Filter Queen

Is there a Johnstone Supply in your area? How about an ACE Hardware. A vacum repair place? Sewing machine repair place?

If you have the data, ACE or Johnstone should be able to help you. Don't discount other electrical supply places. You will not get help at a big box place.

When I Googled "Filter Queen parts", I found lots of places on the WWW. There must be something close to you.

Give it a try. Let me know if this works for you.

Replacing broken handle on filter queen vacume

It is always best to have a cirtified & Authorized Service Tech or Center do the work and only with genuine Filter Queen parts and supplies. Both can be found at 800-344-1840 or in Iowa 888-637-4692

If a Authorized Tech can not come out,
  1. Always unplug unit from electric outlet.
  2. Remove top like you were changing filters, also the crown.
  3. Remove cap under handle.
  4. Remove 3 screws from SN plate then remove plate.
  5. Seperate upper from lower.
  6. lift cardboard piece and Silencing Filter.
  7. Now you can remove the 4 screw that hold the handle.
  8. Repace handle and reverse the above steps.

Usually this means that you have a clog, either in the hose, wands, or by the brush roll in the power head.

Motor

Filter ?Queen Majestic Canister Vacuum – Motor
Motor?

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
If your Filter Queen Motor is out or not working, the customer can replace the motor if they are mechanically minded and mark the wires as they remove the old motor with the new motor or you can have it serviced by your local vacuum dealer in your area, you can pickup the motor @ a local vacuum cleaner dealer in you area by checking the yellow pages or to contact the Filter Queen factory listed below. It requires a new motor and a new gasket; the biggest problem would be the wiring of the new motor. The factory information is listed below:
