Nikon N80 + SB600 : Speedlight doesn't fire in TTL mode but it does in TTL BL mode

I bought the speedlight recently and I'm almost sure I saw it work in TTL mode but now it doesn't work anymore. Only in TTL BL mode. I know there are some limitations with my N80 model such as iTTL, but the user manuel doesn't this one. I also tried every shooting mode (A, P, S, M) but it still don't work. What's wrong?

Something else: In the only mode it works is in TTL BL. It doen't work in Manual. With red eyes reduction it does the 3 pre-fires but it doesn't fires the final flash. I also see the sign "STBY" (sant by) never turns off. I tried with new bateries but nothing changes.

SOURCE: Speedlight SB-80DX TTL Flash ideal for NIKON D60?

It works but it's not ideal. The SB-80DX won't support TTL flash on the D60, only non-TTL Auto and Manual. The SB-800 is the most capable flash unit for the D60, but you can get full TTL operation with the less expensive SB-600 or SB-400.

SOURCE: Nikon Speedlight SB-600 keeps firing

I believe that there is a safety feature built in that if the voltage in the capacitor gets too large the flash will fire, to prevent damage, could be this that is faulty, if it is a new main circuit board is required.

SOURCE: Speedlight SB-600 TTL Flash: When I set my SB600 (mounted on D70) to TTL or TTL...

the sync speed for the sb-600 is onlt 1/200 on most cameras i think so if your shutter is faster then that then all you will see is black/ the curtans behind the shutter.

basicly just try again with a slower shutter speed

Did not flash fire

Have you tried the SB600 flashgun on another Nikon Camera, if not do so, and if it doesn't fire for you, then you should send it to a Nikon Service Centre.

Auto zoom only works when on the hot shoe of the camera. You also need to make sure that its in the righht mode (make sure that above the word Zoom on the display it doesn't have a "m").

Oh and of course you have to have a CLS (Creative LIghting System) compatible camera.

Problem with speedlight SB-800

Check the conatcts on the shoe area and also the exp comp is done in the flash or in the cmaera to a minus 7 and that should help the exposure.

Nikon Speedlight SB600 will not switch on

I'm sure this won't work for everyone but I used a long thin flathead screwdriver to scrape some corrosion off of the contacts that would be touching the positive side of the battery and then it fired up fine.  I'll use some swaps dipped in alcohol to give them a better cleaning later but after the scraping (gentle) it fired right up.

This flash was made in the 1990's for use on nikon film cameras. It wont work in TTL mode on current nikon models, and it has no infrared remote capability like the sb600/800 speedlights, but it can still be fired in manual mode by even the newest nikon cameras. I wouldnt throw it away, but I probably wouldnt use it that much either.
