Question about Celestron CG-5 Mount Telescope

1 Answer

I own a celestron c6 sgt, when im setting it up i have align the 2 index marks on the mount, when i do this the optical tube is not pointing in the exact position as the polar axis, the optical tube is pointing a little more to the right, the declination axis would only need to be turned 3mm to put it right.when index marks lignd i also noticed the counter weight bar which moves around the polar axis does not point directly to the ground. so is this normal or are my index marks (which are glued on) in the wrong position. please help derek

How do I attach telescope tube to eq dovetail mount?

You first have to get 2 tube rings. These must be the right size for your scope.

http://www.optcorp.com/orion-116mm-id-orion-telescope-tube-rings-7372.html

They will have hinges and clamp screws and at least one other hole for attaching to a dovetail rail. Then you need a rail, sized appropriately for your scope. They come in several lengths and 2 geometries, Vixen and Losmandy. Almost certainly you will need the first one.

http://www.optcorp.com/aa-vdup11-vdup11-vixen-style-11inch-dovetail-universal-plate.html

There are some scopes with very fat tubes, like Schmidt-Cassegrains, where the rail attaches directly to the tube fittings.

Celestron astromaster 114eq see only pitch black

  1. Get Stellarium or another fine astronomy program
  2. During the day, point the telescope at a part of the landscape about 100 yards away.
  3. Use the lowest power eyepiece (highest number) in the focal tube.
  4. Center the landscape object in the telescope.
  5. Align the finder scope so that it points exactly where the main telescope is.
  6. At night, leave the scope out to reach thermal equilibrium (about an hour for small reflectors and refractors)
  7. If the scope is on a EQ mount, polar align.
  8. Point the finder at the moon. The moon should be in the main scope also.
  9. Practice finding the moon before you start on the planets
  10. Once you are comfortable with the moon and planets, you can go for the deep sky objects

I have a C8-SGT (XLT) Computerized Telescope, just brought it out first time this year. It is not tracking after I slew to an object. I've checked and rechecked the hand control settings. Any...

Hi,
I assume you mean you have set tracking on by:
Setup key, scroll to Set Tracking, select Sidereal Rate, press Enter

This should get tracking going for celestial objects.

Another possibility, if the mount is not tracking well, is that polar alignment is not very precise. This will immediately show up when doing a 3-star alignment.

Cheers

Not able to see anything would like how to use cerlestron EQ 114

This is a small reflector style telescope on an equatorial mount. The mount and tripod must be polar aligned in order to be used. Read this:
http://arnholm.org/astro/polar_alignment/index.html

Simply pt the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope, take the scope outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object like a building.
