I LOST MY WEP KEY PASSWORD AND NOW MY ROUTER WILL NOT CONNECT TO MY LABTOP

Connect a LAN cable from your laptop to the LAN port on the router then open your browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
Login and go to the wireless settings. you can change the encryption settings and then apply them to the wireless card in your laptop.
If you cannot login to the router because you forgot the password etc. then you can reset the Netgear back to the default settings by pressing the RESET button at the back of the router until the LEDs all flash.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Im trying to get wireless connection.Im connected now direct but wanted to know when i go on the site what do i do to troubleshoot and get it working for my labtop? Thanks

Your laptop should have the drivers for th Wireless card. Assuming that you have a wireless card in your laptop. Browse for networks and see if it picks up your wireless network. If it does select it and browse.

If it doesnt then you have to have to go though other steps of troubleshooting.

Please rate if helpful.

Thanks

Not receiving n-type signal from router

Put the laptop next to the router and see what signal you then get. do the following
---- start>control panel>system and maintenance>system>device manager on lefthandside> network adapters click on the +sign>right click on the wifi adapter>properties>now in there there maybe a TAB for advanced which allows you to select the type of signal the adapter is set for - check its not set to G. ----- loss of signal in room, wifi signals can be reduced, if they pass through walls etc - sometimes just a small change in the routers position or aerial alignment can make a big difference ------ download and install - http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php - you can then monitor on the graph the signal strength and see when it drops off -------- also a change in the wireless channel used on the router can helpp - Use channel 1 or 6 or 11 as they do not overlap - have a look at the other signals being broadcast and what channel they are on - then choose one that is free or also on a very weak signal to minimise interference

I bought a new wireless laptop and want to connect to my netgear router

Is your netgear router already working ?
Is there any other computer able to go online using the same router ?
If there is any other computer online then you don't need to change the settings of the router.
You need to connect to the wireless network.

Extremely inconsistent connection to router (Net Gear) & Internet

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the Netgear router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:
  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the Netgear router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router:Netgear suggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router:
Having default wireless settings on the Netgear router may cause conflict with other Netgear routers within your network range.Netgear suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

No conncections

SSID is the network name for your routers network. If you use a linksys router, then the default SSID is Linksys (don't know what it is for others, but would be easy to find out from their website, and the manual for the router.).

SSID's should always be changed, and secruity encryption enabled, when yu set up a wireless network.

Sounds like you might be accidentally connecting to a neighbour's network instead of your own. You need to go into your wireless settings on each laptop and tell them to connect to your own network.
