Freezing

By kopi on Sep 25, 2006

" "
When I am running two programs at once (ex. internet browser, winamp) almost 3/4 of the times my screen will freeze in about 30 minutes or less. What appears are vertical blue dotted lines across the screen, sometimes the lines are yellow but they're usually blue. The problem isn't overheating, viruses and I know its not a problem about not having enough RAM.

I used a program to check the registry, scan for viruses, deleted programs i don't use and made sure a whole bunch of programs don't run at start up. I'm hoping its not a faulty hardware problem because I don't have the cash to take it to a shop or get a new one, i just bought it and started using it a month ago :(

-   ive got a few problems, a few months ago my sound card stopped working. well, actually the microphone works because i can hear my voice on my speakers, and i cant shut the microphone up, it even activates itself as soon as i turn on the power button on my laptop .When it comes to playing any file with sound, it does not play anything, the weird thing is it shows on the media player that the file is playing with sound perfectly, yet i cant hear anything. Im pretty sure its a software problem because i wouldnt be able to hear anything if the sound card was burned or anything, right?. I formatted my hd many times to see if the problem would disappear, I installed many different sound drivers to see if that solves the problem, til i came up with an answer, bought a usb sound card, desinstalled the notebooks sound card, and installed the new one. And now another problem appeared: at first everything was working well, but later on I couldnt play videos on line (on youtube and such) nor regular videos (dvds, avis, mpgs), it only plays five seconds and then it starts freezing, and the it doesnt play at all. Is there really any solution?, or should I just give up? If you could give me a solution I'de apreciate it. bye.-   melvinsucho

is it possible for you to use an external monitor, via your rear VGA port and see if you get the same problem, if so its worth checking the drivers for your graphics are current and as daft as it sounds your sound drivers as sometimes they have a conflict and cause graphical problems.

This can be a problem when windows automatically updates itself and sometimes installs generic drivers for graphics and sound and your board doesnt like it.

Hope this is a way forward for you.

for your;e mic click start,all programs,accessories,entertainment,volume control.
In the next window if you dont see mic settings select properties or advanced .ticking all boxes makes all devices possible.look for the mic and put a tic in the mute box, this doesnt mute it like sound mute it stops its screaming (feedback )through your'e speakers. As for the other probs they are software related(drivers)
you can down load a program called driver genius (free)which will scan your pc for all correct drivers. If you register it ,itll find and install the drivers for you.but as long as you know what drivers you need;you can find and install your'e self

- kopi...the programs youve deleted have deleted shared programs which other programs need to function correctly.
if you need to stop running programs at startup its best to disable them using task manager(ctrl, alt, del)
you may have to now uninstall the programs with problems and then re install them to function properly.
youre probably experiencing fatal exception messages, slow programs response, system freezes and errors.

- melvinsucho......go to device manager,check vga..display.
if you have more than one driver disable all but the one you currently use.you say u deleted the software but the device is still there and system cant decide which it is to use causing a conflict.another option if system allows is to change resources though this option isnt always available.
also ur usb sound card needs to be connected permanantly or system will revert to last driver.
if you remove ur sound card and check device manager you will notice that it is no longer there until u reinsert it.
I could go in depth about this but hope this enough.
let me know

maybe the contact point for the LCD is broken. See when u use it for a long time, the solders expand and break contact and opening the circuit. thus it will freeza up. upon switching off and leaving it for a while, it will cool and the solders will close up again.

yes. one possible to confirm that it is not this case is to connect it to a external LCD monitor and use the computer as per normal. If it freezes, it means ur processor, or ram, or hardware is not good enough.
