Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook

4 Answers

Freezing When I am running two programs at once (ex. internet browser, winamp) almost 3/4 of the times my screen will freeze in about 30 minutes or less. What appears are vertical blue dotted lines across the screen, sometimes the lines are yellow but they're usually blue. The problem isn't overheating, viruses and I know its not a problem about not having enough RAM. I used a program to check the registry, scan for viruses, deleted programs i don't use and made sure a whole bunch of programs don't run at start up. I'm hoping its not a faulty hardware problem because I don't have the cash to take it to a shop or get a new one, i just bought it and started using it a month ago :(

ive got a few problems, a few months ago my sound card stopped working. well, actually the microphone works because i can hear my voice on my speakers, and i cant shut the microphone up, it even activates itself as soon as i turn on the power button on my laptop .When it comes to playing any file with sound, it does not play anything, the weird thing is it shows on the media player that the file is playing with sound perfectly, yet i cant hear anything. Im pretty sure its a software problem because i wouldnt be able to hear anything if the sound card was burned or anything, right?. I formatted my hd many times to see if the problem would disappear, I installed many different sound drivers to see if that solves the problem, til i came up with an answer, bought a usb sound card, desinstalled the notebooks sound card, and installed the new one. And now another problem appeared: at first everything was working well, but later on I couldnt play videos on line (on youtube and such) nor regular videos (dvds, avis, mpgs), it only plays five seconds and then it starts freezing, and the it doesnt play at all. Is there really any solution?, or should I just give up? If you could give me a solution I'de apreciate it. bye.

For your;e mic click start,all programs,accessories,entertainment,volume control.
In the next window if you dont see mic settings select properties or advanced .ticking all boxes makes all devices possible.look for the mic and put a tic in the mute box, this doesnt mute it like sound mute it stops its screaming (feedback )through your'e speakers. As for the other probs they are software related(drivers)
you can down load a program called driver genius (free)which will scan your pc for all correct drivers. If you register it ,itll find and install the drivers for you.but as long as you know what drivers you need;you can find and install your'e self

kopi...the programs youve deleted have deleted shared programs which other programs need to function correctly.

if you need to stop running programs at startup its best to disable them using task manager(ctrl, alt, del)

you may have to now uninstall the programs with problems and then re install them to function properly.

youre probably experiencing fatal exception messages, slow programs response, system freezes and errors.

    melvinsucho......go to device manager,check vga..display.

if you have more than one driver disable all but the one you currently use.you say u deleted the software but the device is still there and system cant decide which it is to use causing a conflict.another option if system allows is to change resources though this option isnt always available.

also ur usb sound card needs to be connected permanantly or system will revert to last driver.

if you remove ur sound card and check device manager you will notice that it is no longer there until u reinsert it.

I could go in depth about this but hope this enough.

    let me know

Maybe the contact point for the LCD is broken. See when u use it for a long time, the solders expand and break contact and opening the circuit. thus it will freeza up. upon switching off and leaving it for a while, it will cool and the solders will close up again.

yes. one possible to confirm that it is not this case is to connect it to a external LCD monitor and use the computer as per normal. If it freezes, it means ur processor, or ram, or hardware is not good enough.

Is it possible for you to use an external monitor, via your rear VGA port and see if you get the same problem, if so its worth checking the drivers for your graphics are current and as daft as it sounds your sound drivers as sometimes they have a conflict and cause graphical problems. This can be a problem when windows automatically updates itself and sometimes installs generic drivers for graphics and sound and your board doesnt like it. Hope this is a way forward for you.

Explorer 8 keeps freezing every few minutes

My IE8 Keep Freezing

Although Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) allows you to
browse the Internet to view and download your favorite content, Microsoft\'s
signature browser may freeze or crash occasionally.

When IE8 freezes, the screen remains static and
the mouse and keyboard fail to respond.

A number of problems can cause freezing, but you
can solve most quickly and safely.

Add-ons and Plug-ins

Add-ons and plug-ins are programs that can make your
browser more interactive.

These software enhancements perform a variety of functions
such as displaying videos and three-dimensional (3-D) images, assisting with
file downloads and blocking pop-ups.

Occasionally, some of these programs can cause more harm
than good.

If they are outdated and incompatible with IE8, the browser
is likely to freeze and crash frequently.

Also, if add-ons are damaged or missing key components, they
can cause display errors.

Key add-ons -- such as Flash Player and Java -- are often
necessary for viewing Flash content, so it\'s a good idea to keep them updated.

Browser Cache

When you visit a Web page, view photos and videos and
download content, a record of these actions is stored on your computer in the
"Temporary Internet Files" folder.

This stored data can speed up the display of the Web pages
you visit most often, because IE8 can load them directly from your hard disk
instead of the Internet.

For the most part, browser caching can reduce bandwidth
usage and server load; some of the saved files can also cause problems,
however.

If you haven\'t cleared IE8\'s cache in a long time, the
browser may experience an overload that can cause freezing problems.

Viruses, Trojans and Spyware

Viruses, Trojan horses and spyware are damaging parasites
that can cripple your browser and cause a world of problems.

Many of these malicious programs install themselves on your
computer using a variety of surreptitious methods.

Once installed, they can alter system files and processes,
****** your browser, redirect searches and cause IE8 to freeze or crash.

Trojan horses, which often disguise themselves as rogue
anti-spyware and anti-virus applications, are famous for employing such
tactics.

This type of program is designed to trick you into buying
bogus security software, often redirecting your browser to the purchase site --
if it doesn\'t crash first.

Solutions

Always install third-party plug-ins from reputable sites.

Some plug-ins are secretly packaged with viruses and
spyware, so check the credibility of the site from which you\'re downloading
content before trusting them with your browser.

Clearing IE8\'s cache is often an essential troubleshooting
step that can improve its performance. How often you do this can vary, but
every week should suffice.

To clear the cache, click "Tools" on the IE8
toolbar and select "Internet Options" at the end of the drop-down
list.

Under "Browsing history" on the
"General" tab, click the "Delete" button.

Make sure the box next to "Temporary Internet
files" is checked, then click "Delete" at the bottom of the window.

If your browser still experiences problems, Microsoft
recommends resetting it from the "Advanced" tab in the "Internet
Options" window.

Keep in mind that performing this troubleshooting step
restores the browser to its original, freshly installed state; it does not,
however, delete your favorites, feeds and Web slices.

Running an updated anti-virus or anti-malware program on a
daily basis can remove malicious programs that are likely to diminish your
browser\'s performance.

Stop IE8 From Freezing Up

Internet Explorer 8, or IE8, is a Web browser that allows
users to connect to the Internet.

When the program freezes, all of the pages in progress on
the screen will stop responding.

If your IE is freezing, there are a few things that you can
do.

Common issues reside in the computer\'s RAM size, out-of-date
software and an overloaded cache.

You can fix the freezing and get your browser working with
little hassle.

Click the "Start" button and then click the "Search" box.

Type "Windows Update" into the search bar and
press the "Enter" button.

Click on the "Windows Update" icon from the menu.

Click the "Check for updates" button on the left
side of the menu.

Wait for the
computer to scan for updates.

Click the "Internet Explorer 8" update from the
menu.

Click the "Install" button at the bottom of the
screen.

RAM

Check the amount of RAM on your computer.

Click the "Start" button and then click the
"Control Panel" option.

Click the "System and Maintenance" option.

Click the "System" button and then look under the
"Memory" icon for the amount of RAM you have installed.

Add more RAM to your computer if needed. Internet Explorer 8
runs best on more than one gig of RAM.

Clearing the History

Open the Internet Explorer 8 program by double-clicking on
its icon.

Click the "Tools" icon and then click the
"Internet Options" tab in the menu.

Click the "General" icon.

Click the "Delete" button.

Click on the "Everything" tab and then click
"OK."

Restart your browser.

search type msconfig go to startup tab and uncheck those you dont want to
start.

Sometimes smaal rectangle shapes appears all over the screen while working, then we have to switchoff the system to reappear the screen

This a freezing of the system caused by the small memory (Ram memory ) or too many programs running in the same time for the capacity of the Ram ..or the CPU ..or just one faulty program or application ...Freezing the screen can be also a issue of running a program that requires video card resources much larger than available ..You should pay attention on the programs running often when the freezing is happening ..and than search on the internet for minimum requiring resources for running that application ..If the system permits you should upgrade..at least the Ram memory for to avoid this happening ..or use similar application with less needs from the system ..
Another cause can be the system being infected and in this case you should reinstall the operation system ..(this is probably the cause if your system has at least 1G of ram ..and 2G CPU ..cause in this case it is enough to run common application of any kind except complicated video ones..and the cause for freezing is a virus )

My utube keeps freezing while watching my line dancing videos its stops during the dance.

YouTube freeze can happen due to many reasons. Major reasons are overload on website, simultaneous running of many programs on your computer, Low RAM, Slow internet connection or corrupt windows registry.

For smooth watching of YouTube Videos take following actions:
1. Watch videos at off peak times, if possible

2. Do not run other programs while watching videos. They slow down computer in general by making use of memory.

3. Add RAM on your computer. More RAM will make easy execution of heavy programs on your system.

4. Get better and speedy internet connection. Talk to your ISP in this regard.

5. Regularly clean windows registry. Windows registry is vital place that stores information for important computing functions. A congested or corrupted windows registry makes computer slow that causes YouTube like freezes. For this, get the best registry cleaner reg in out and optimizer. Use it once in a fortnight for fast computing to avoid YouTube freezes and system slow down.
