Based on what you described I would say your TV has the "shrinking and expanding" fault. Its a common problem on that model and the symptoms can range from the video shrinking and expanding or no video or no audio....You can read more about this fix on the site www.TvRepairKits.com
I had the same problem. After doing some research here I went to www.tvrepairkits.com and I ordered this kit: (TV-KIT-001-9P6031C103) Philips Magnavox 9P6031C103 Shrinking & Expanding Video Or No Video Kit. It costs about $53.00 plus about $12.00 freight. According to the research and discussions this should fix the problem.
If you have any of the following problems you may want to check the site www.TvRepairKits.com for a repair kit. Most of the issue below are fairly common with the older Magnavox projection sets. Symptom: Screen shrinks and expands - may or may not correct itself after the TV warms up. After a few days, weeks, or months of having the shrinking/expanding problem you may loose all audio/video but the power light will remain lit!
Symptom: No Audio or Video but power light is on
Symptom: Audio works but no Video. Power light still work
Symptom: No Video. Audio is intermittent. Power light still works
you can ask a good tv Technion man, since if it happens to be like that then in coming day u will have to face problems. So since this very common problem which will arise in old tv. Actually the real problem is that, some parts in the board may have become weak or the molded part in the board may have fallen down ,so changing that particular part or molding again may fix that problem. Since i am not an Technion I don't the right terms to help u.I have see this problem in many places and
don't worry your picture tube is well and good.
I had the same issue. The screen would shrink and then expand over and over. After thrity minutes it would correct itself. After a few months of doing this it just broke - no sound and no videe but the power light was still on.
I searched these forums but did not find clear instructions or kits on how to fix it. I gave up and called in a repair tech. He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes.
To help others I documented the fix and created a repair kit and step by step quide on how to fix the problem. You can find it here. http://www.magnavoxhelp.com
