Tv/digital converter box & vcr-dvd hook-up

I have a Zenith tv that only has the ANTENNA IN on it, was using and watching dvd/vcr movies just fine.
Had to buy converter box so I got the Zenith 901. Now I can't watch my dvd/vcr movies. It has power to it and the remote works, it appears the movie is playing but I can't find the channel the movie is playing on. HELP

I bought a ALL IN ONE hook up box that the antenna was connceted to as well as the vcr/dvd player. that is no longer being used, the girl at Radio Shack said I wouldn't need it anymore. Channel 3 was being used, I have the option for channel 3 or 4 now with the converter and I tried it on both channelsThanks Karen

I have followed the instructions in the converter manual. I have a Sony TV, a Toshiba VCR/DVD . I can view the TV programs through the new converter box. My problem is if I switch to DVD I can't get the DVD to play. The lights are on the DVD but can't get TV programs to stop playing to switch to the DVD. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Harlan W

Mike.....

You have saved my day.

I had the same connections problem as Karen. I have an older TV and the DVD player was connected using an RF converter. No where in the digital converter manual did it mention the RF converter or how to connect the converter box if you already have an RF converter.

I was checking on-line and could still find nothing. About to give up, I happened to find the web-site FixYa. Within minutes I located the thread regarding hoop up with an RF converter. It took all of 5 minutes to then connect everything.

I cannot thank you enough for making the connection so simple.

Sincerely,
Max Parker

    Hi Karen,

I just wrote you a whole book to make the correction, then I realized one thing.
Prior to not having the digital box, where did you connect the Antenna?
Did the antenna connect directly to the Televsion or to the VCR/DVD?
Did you had to set your Televsion to channel three when you need to use the VCR/DVD player?

    Thanks,
    Mike H.

    Hi Karen,

Are you refering to a RF Modulator box as the all in one hook up?

If thats the case, you will need to use the RF Modulatot again.

The girl at Radio Shack made a mistake or was not clear about the options that you have available for connecting your devices

I already know where the problem lies, but can you confirmed that your all and one hook up was the RF modulator box and also provide the model number. Once I have a clear picture of your before connection, then I will be able to give you the currect answer to connect all the devices.

    Thanks Karen.

    Hi Karen,

    Thanks for all the information.

We will use your old connection but instead, we will include the digital box to the connection.

If I am correct, this is how your old connection was:

1- Antenna cable connected to the RF modulator on the Antenna "In" connection.

2- VCR/DVD connected in the RF Modulator in the Yellow, Red and White connection (Video In ).

3-On the RF Modulator box, you had a coaxial (round cable wire) connected to the "out" going into the television "in".

    Your new connection should be:

1- Antenna cable connected to the digital box in the " antenna in".

2- A coaxial cable connected to the digital box in the "out" connection.(For this, you need a new /or extra cable that you might have laying around)

3- The other end of that coaxial cable (step 2) goes to the RF modulator box connected to the" Antenna in".

4- VCR/DVD connected to RF modulator in the Yellow, Red and White connection (Video In ), same as your old connection.

5- On the RF Modulator box, you had a coaxial (round cable wire) connected to the "out" going into the television "in". ( Same as in your old connection).

Thats it Karen, all you need to do is set your Television to Channel 3 or 4 to utilize the VCR/DVD or the digital Box.

If you need additional help, please feel free to contact me.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I have an older TV with only an antenna hook-up, a VCR, a DVD recorder and a converter box that I would like to hook all together. I can get the VCR to work, but don't really know how to hook the DVD...

Try this. You will need 2 RF cables and a RCA cable that has a red, black, and yellow plug on each end.
  1. Plug the antenna signal into the converter box.
  2. Connect the RF output (TV out) of the converter box to the RF input on the VCR
  3. Connect the RF output (TV out) on the VCR to the TV
  4. Finally, plug the DVD recorder into the converter box also, but use the 3 RCA cables that came with it (audio left, right and video).

Would like to record from my tv to my magnavox dvd/vcr combo box

If I understand your request right, You do not have cable or satellite box.
You can not record from your TV. You use the TV as a monitor from the dvd/vcr combo box. What the box receives is what shows on the TV. So you will have to have a digital convertor hooked to the (antenna in) dvd/vcr combo box, (antenna out to the tv antenna in) Depending on the antenna you are using that is on the other end of your cable-in coax connection this will hook to your antenna in on the digital convertor box. If your cable is hooked up and operating correctly and directly to the tv that is digital ready you probabbly have a good picture. When the vhf/uhf signal was transmitted you could go from the dvd/vcr to the tv with no problem. But now that the signal is digital and the tv is set for digital the dvd/vcr will not pass a digital signal to the tv. Best suggestion, you have to get a digital dvd/vcr receiver. If you have more question please contact me.

I have a vcr/dvd hooked up to my present tv with a antanna. How do i hook up the digital converter. so thatI still could use vcr. Thank You

It depends on brand of converter. In Radioshack they have one with AV-in ports (for $56 (-$40 coupon = $16). So TV signal going trough antenna and DVD/VCR going trough AV-in of converter to the same antenna of TV. Or you will have to hook up the CONVERTER - ANTENNA IN VCR/DVD - Antenna OUT VCR/DVD - ANTENNA IN TV. And you will use the remote of converter to switch the channels.
Good Luck

I cannot record using a DVD/VHS player.

You can record. From antenna to converter box, from converter box to vcr. From vcr to TV.
TV on Channnel 3 VCR on channel 3, and set channel on converter box. Then Record.

Time recording works the same way, but you can set for only one channel at a time. Tht is the only restriction that I have not overcome. The converter box sets the channel. Gee Whizz

Converter box

The cable that goes into the TV sould come from the VCR output to TV plug.
The antenna input to the VCR should come from the antenna or DTV converter box.
The signal passes through or loops through the VCR.
If you hve a manual the connections are on pages 14 an 15.
Let me know if there are any problems and a time you might be hooking this up.
