The circuit board may have been compromised or the in/out valve may be damaged or closed. There is an electronic valve called a solenoid that takes its orders from the circuit board. If the board is inoperative, the valve will not function and allow water to enter from the water soutce.

Hotpoint fdf780 flooding at rest

Ya you're right the problem is in the water inlet valve, but try to consider also that this machine is equipped with a digital controller or a so called IC. Better to consult a technician nearest you.

No water is geting to dish washer

If you've not changed anything on your water system and you know that you have water pressure at the machine, the problem is in one of two things: The timer isn't turning on the hydromechanical valve, or it is the hydromechanical valve itself. Both of these are common problems that are easily solved. A tech call will be in order, or if you're handy, test these two items with an ohm meter for power to the valve. If you have power (this means timer is good - remember to set it on "fill") and can hear an audible click in the valve when you energize it (with water pressure attached), the rubber diaphragm is bad. If no click, something is wrong with the valve coil. Replace items as indicated. The entire valve will need to be replaced if either no click or click and no flow.

Dishwasher wont take in water but pump is working, had side off and checked in coming supply. could it be the electronic valve on the supply in?

The water-inlet valve lets water enter the machine. First Check to see if the valve is getting water. Make sure it's not clogged. There is a screen on the inside of the valve, this sometimes gets clogged up with debris. Check to see if you get power to valve when unit is put into operation may take a couple minutes to start a fill. If you have power and it's not clogged up replace the valve .If you have no power to the water inlet valve check float switch. This can be done by checking the continuity. Here is a video checking the water inlet valve and the float switch. It may be a different model but the testing procedure will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations for most models. All parts come with installation instructions.

My Hot Point Dishwasher is leaking water. It was

Hi

Check for any kind of leaks around lower spray arm or soap door. Replace the arm if any cracks are found. Also make sure that door latches firmly, and the gasket is not cut.
The leak can also happen due to a broken fill valve. To check, take off the access panel from the front of the dishwasher so you can reach the fill valve attached to the metal bracket. Use a multimeter to check the continuity across the two black terminals at the top of the fill valve. If it reads 120 V, replace the fill valve. Make sure the thin filter screen between the bracket and fill valve is not blocked by debris.

Please post back for any further assistance.

No water getting in. main water line is ok and tested

Test the inlet valve and the water level switch.
The inlet valve can be tested reading continuity on valve solenoid contacts, check also the water level switch actuated by a floating sensor.
If they are ok then the problem is usually the timer control board. Testing this part is more complicate and is done reading voltages.
Always keep your appliance unplugged when you DIY.
Regards.

Hotwater runs continuously

It sounds like a little piece of trash (precipitated solids in the water line) have gotten in the water valve, or, the fill switch has failed.

If you know how to use a voltmeter, then see if there is voltage always applied to the water solenoid. If not, the water solenoid valve is bad. If it does have voltage all the time (when it's not supposed to be filling) then it's the fill switch.

Hotpoint is not taking water inlet

If your thinking air in the water supply line, air won't be the cause. I would look to make sure there is not mineral buildup inside the valve, and that the valve is good.

Turn the water off, disconnect the line at the water valve, then carefully tirn the water abck on to make sure there is good flow from the water supply line. If there is, then look toward the dishwasher side. If not, look toward the water supply side.
