Audio output device

Okay, then reinstall the drivers.

If that doesn't do it, then you need to install a Sound Card.
This is because the audio chipset on the motherboard is bad.

Go to Device Manager, and reinstall?
Naa!
Works sometimes, sometimes not.

Go to eMachines Support, download, AND install the drivers.
This DOES work.

{ If it doesn't, as said the audio chipset on the motherboard is bad }

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=1625

See where it states -
Need to know the hardware on your system to install the right driver?
Click on the -
Download Hardware Vendor Detection Utility

This IS NOT going to automatically download the audio driver you need.
It is going to tell you what audio chipset vendor you have, for your motherboard.

With this information you can choose between the two Audio driver files listed, and choose the correct one.

See which one you need?
Version 6.10.0.5274, Or, 6.10.5405.0 ?

Go to back to the driver page, and click on the appropriate driver.
A small window will come up on the right.
Click on Save File.

A small window will come up on the left.
At the top of this window tells you where the file will download to.
It may have Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads, in the wording.

Desktop: The driver file will be on your desktop screen.

Documents: Click on the Windows logo button, (Start), and then on Documents.

Downloads: Click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents.
Now click on Downloads.

When you see the driver file, DOUBLE-click on it.
In the next three small windows click on Next, Next, and Finish.

If you are not asked to restart your computer, close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Restart your computer.

(Windows logo button, Restart)

No joy when Windows loads back up?
You need a Sound Card.

One example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1111756&csid=_61

[ The eMachines T5224 Desktop PC uses an Intel D945GCL motherboard,

http://www.ascendtech.us/intel-d945gcl-1066fsb-ddr2-pcie-x16-sata_i_mb4intd945gcl.aspx

Scroll down a little to the larger photo.
If one of the long white PCI expansion slots are open, you can install the above Sound Card in it.

If not, you can use the short Black PCI-E X1 connector,
BELOW the long white PCI slots.

Instead of a PCI sound card, use a PCI-Express x1 sound card,
Example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2941926&CatId=2769

DO NOT forget to unplug the computer from power, and FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions BEFORE reaching inside the computer, AND before taking that Sound Card out of it's anti-static bag, or carton.

Do not know what Anti-Static Precautions are?

Sound not coming in win xp sp3 even after updating correct sound driver?

Do you still have the unknown device in device manager? If so, you need to install a different driver. If not, go into device manager, expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. For each device under that heading, right-click the device, then click update driver software, choose "Search Automatically..." It will then go to the windows update site and see if there is a driver there that is listed as more recent, and it will install that driver, if such a driver is found. If that doesn't work, make sur ethat y ou manually find the correct sound driver installer, and then right-click whichever device obviously represents the sound hardware driver, and click Uninstall. Reboot afterward. Then reinstall the audio driver. If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall windows.

Connot play sound in my pc desktop. os window xp professional. model-compaq pressario-gs178aa-acj sr 5420il

Try one of these solution:
1.Try to get the latest update for your XP OS. (i. e latest service pack and update)
2.Try to download Driver for the audio to function properly (if it is external)
3. If you have a built-in sound controller Try to install your motherboard driver to update all its chipsets
4. Check your hardware stability by right clicking the my computer on the desktop, select properties, select hardware tab, select device manager button, under the sound, expand to see all the listings, check to whether audio devices are present.
5.Try to check in the control panel, select sound speech and audio devices, select sound and audio devices, click sounds tab, under the program events select one of those programs and click the play button if sound can be heard.

My compaq evo d150 pc doesnt have a sound...i tried checking the devices but there were no drivers existing. I tried so many drivers but failed. i even tried putting an intex sound card but it didnt...

Sound on Compaq evo d150. The next site says:
http://www.orixrentec.com.my/hp_4.htm
Audio: "Integrated Intel Audio with Premium Internal Speaker".
So there should be a:
* speaker inside
* working on an Intel driver.

The chipset of the motherboard is Intel 845G.
The AC 97 audio driver can be installed by online detection of
your hardware using the Intel driver update utility:
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/detect.htm

When using a PCI-slot for extra sound, the matching driver of the
PCI-audio-card should be installed. Of course external powered and wired speakers will be required as well.

Why don't I have sound?

Move the sound card to another pci slot on your computer. Open up your pc and where the sound is move it one slot over. First, NO power on!!! Than move it. when you start your pc it will display a message (new hardware found) at that point you can reinstall the driver software for the sound card and the M controller will install as well.

Multimedia audio controller

This indicates that the sound drivers are missing from your computer. You will have to identify the sound card that is installed on your computer before proceeding with downloading the correct driver. To identify the sound card, follow the steps below (Assuming that you are using Windows XP)

  1. Open Device Manager (Right-click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager)
  2. The hardware whose drivers are missing will appear as Unknown device, so it’s easier to locate the device.
  3. Right click on the unknown device and click on Properties.
  4. Under the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop down box.
  5. You should see a code similar to this
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DC&SUBSYS_30868086&REV_01\4&1E46F438&0&40F0
  6. The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example:
    Vendor ID = 8086
    Device ID = 27DC
  7. Once you have obtained both the IDs, proceed to www.pcidatabase.com . There you can either search for the vendor from the vendor ID or directly get information about the device along with the vendor name by searching with the device ID.

NO SOUND

I had the same problem with a full reinstall of XP. Follow the link below to download the UAA protocol, install it and XP should then install the drivers for your sound card. If it does not install, go to Windows update, it will provide a driver under the hardware category.

My speakers are not working.

try to test your speaker to the other pc;if its working it means your sound hardware or software got the problem.
to troubleshoot try to reinstall the sound driver,if it still have no sound, try to test some pci sound card to your motherboard...if it work, then you got a faulty soundchip.you must provide your own pci soundcard to get you a sound.

if the speaker is really the problem....try to check the speaker's LED if its on, if its not,try to check the power wire if it have a wire cut,if they do...try to connect and tape it,{tester is useful to check the wires continuity to troubleshoot}
if the speaker got power, try to check the audio wire if it contain cut or deform{you can use tester to check} if they do...connect the audio wire then tape it.

OR try to unscrew the speaker then check if there was burned electronic components inside,if they do try to replace it as same component value.
solder it carefully

Hi''

Please specify your computer specs, mainly what "Operating system are you using", What type of PC do you have...

for example

Acer Veriton 7900
Windows XP service Pack 2
__________________________________________________
Secondly, what type of sound card do you have ? Is it an "onboard" sound card, or a sound card that you or a technician installed via PCI slot
__________________________________________________
One way to specify your "sound card vendor" is by looking on your motherboard. There are various chips on your motherboard that have certain "brand names" imprinted on them. Sound cards these days(standard), can either be : Realtek, Cmedia, Avance, Envy or Sis and maybe Intel. So take a closer look on your MB and state which Vendor it is
__________________________________________________
If you are running Windows Xp Professional you can download the following http://www.halfdone.com/ukd/UKD_14-20_Beta.zip
Then unzip to a folder, extract the Lists which are also in a zip format to that folder. Run the program unknownDevices in that folder. Locate and find for "unknown device" or "PCI Device" or "Unknown PCI Device" OR for one tab that is expanded already, stating information that it is a unknown device. Then, if you expand that tab even further, it should tell you what kind of sound card vendor it is. This is the time to go to the vendors website and download the l8est driver.

Please let me know if one of the solutions mentioned above has worked...

Need Drivers

Actually you need to install chipset drivers first then you shoud try for additiona PCI driver like external sound card.
Try one thing again, go to your www.acer.com site and search driver as per your "Service tag no." not for model no. and download drivers for 'Chipset' and others as per your requirement.

Thanks
