How do I set up a password to secure my wireless network??
I have a MacBook. My router is the Dell Truemobile 2300. The router is 4 years old and I recall never setting up a password to secure my network. Would you please walk me through the process? I don't want anybody nearby having access to my bandwidth.

These are the two options for your Router. Don't forget to save your settings
WPA is an upgrade to the WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) standard
for securing your wireless network. If you would like to secure your
wireless network using WPA, you will need the following:
WPA enabled on your Dell TrueMobile 2300 Wireless Broadband
WPA support for your wireless clients. If you are using a Dell
TrueMobile wireless client, you can check for the availability of WPA enabled
software update for your wireless client at
press win key + r under run type cmd on the command prompt type ipconfig not down your defaut gateway. type it in your web browser, and then enter the correct user name and password for the router.(i u dont know the user name leave it blank or try admin for both user name and password or its combination o call dell for it) Create a unique password on your router : Once you have logged into your router, the first thing you should do to secure your network is to change the default password* of the router to something more secure. This will prevent others from accessing the router and you can easily maintain the security settings that you want. You can change the password from the Administration settings on your router’s settings page. The default values are generally admin / password. Change your Network’s SSID name: The SSID (or Wireless Network Name) of your Wireless Router is usually pre-defined as "default" or is set as the brand name of the router (e.g., linksys). Although this will not make your network inherently* more secure, changing the SSID name of your network is a good idea as it will make it more obvious for others to know which network they are connecting to.
This setting is usually under the basic wireless settings in your router’s settings page. Once this is set, you will always be sure that you are connecting to the correct Wireless network even if there are multiple wireless networks in your area. Don’t use your name, home address or other personal information in the SSID name.
This is sufficient to secure your router from other to use it.
You want to secure the wireless network. Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable? If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router with the cable. Check the IP address on the computer. Open the router set up page. Once you open the set up page, you will find the option to make it secured
The only way to reset the password if you can't remember the old one is to reset the device.
To load the Dell TrueMobile 2300 Wireless Broadband Router's default settings, hold down the reset button on the router for at least five seconds. While the unit resets, the Power light blinks.
Then navigate to the router through your browser and Type the following as your username: admin Type the following as your password: admin Click the OK button. The Dell TrueMobile Setup Page appears.
Click the Advanced Settings tab. Click the OK button. Click the Administration Settings button on the left side of the page. Put a check in the box to the left of the Change Your Password setting under the section of the page titled Password Settings. Type the password that you want to use in the New Password field. Retype your password in the Retype Password field. Click the Submit button. Another window appears stating You have successfully submitted the settings to this device! Click the Save and Restart button. Your new password will be saved into the router settings. This will however wipe all your settings!
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router . Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable? If not then connect 1 computer to the router and open the router set up page. Once you open the router set up page, you will be able to find the wireless network key. Use that password to connect to the wireless network

the WEP password is located on the label on the botom of your router. The WEP password prevents unotherize conecting to the network. If some one for example like your naber see your network and conects to but put in the wrong WEP they will not be able to use your internet.
Hi anthony - Could you please let me know the makes and model#s of the wireless pcs your running on your network. Also what operating system they're running. I just need to know because once you set up your routers' security you'll have to set up the wireless pcs with same security or they won't have access to the network. If you already know how to do that don't worry about it. Just thought I'd help you do that too. Just make a little list with one pc a line and each ones' info. Then I'll be happy to assist you. Thanks.
