PS3 to Sony KP-57WV600 HDMI/DVI Conversion Cable Problem

I am tryng to get the PS3 unit to play through the KP-500WV600's DVI input. I tried using HDMI cable to HDMI/DVI converter and straight HDMI/DVI conversion cable to no avail. I followed PS3 instructions on shutting downing the unit and starting up waiting to hear the two beeps. Nothing seems to work. The DVI input on the Sony KP-500 unit is working because I have connected other equipment to it.

The only way I can get the Sony PS3 to work is using the Component AV Cables. I would rather use the HDMI/DVI conversion cable - is there a fix or am I wasting my time.

Thanks

I just bought a Sony Blue Ray BDP S350 and was wondering if I can purchase a HDMI/DVI adapater to convert the Blue Ray and not sacrifice on HDMI? I do not want to want to buy another newer TV at the moment.

Have you got the cable connected properly and attempted a consumer convergence in the menu? If you've attempted that and are still having the issue there may be other components on the Conv Module that have failed.

DVI = HDMI without the audio connectors. So basically you need to connect your audio in some different way, PS3s allow you to keep your video signal as HDMI and change the Audio signal to component, so that is one way or doing it, not sure if the blue ray players allow you to do this though.

SOURCE: Sony wide screen projection tv model kp-57wv600.

I found this solution from SONY's website.

The STANDBY light will flash if an issue is detected within the television. This can sometimes be resolved by simply following the steps below to reset the television.

  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.
If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.

I hope this helps.

I have a Playstation 3/blu ray player and I don't know how to get hi def video on a samsung hln467w

Your TV only has a DVI input, not an HDMI which PS3 has as an output. You can buy a HDMI to DVI adapter and connect the HDMI out of the PS3 to the DVI input of the TV. To get the true HighDef video you need a HDMI input on the TV to enjoy the full capacity of the Blu ray capabilities of the PS3. DVI came out before the HDMI standard and your picture will look good but not like HDMI. I have the same problem with my samsung 65 inch. I Bought the wrong technology. I hope this helps and good luck!

Powersurge made my HD setting revert to low def.

Your TV plays High Def material through either Input 4 (uses component cables R,G,B) or through Input 5 (Uses DVI cable).
Today most equipment uses HDMI cable for High Def or it may have a component (RGB) output that you can use. The DVI hookup is best, so you need a HDMI to DVI cable or Component Cables (Red, Green, Blue). You need some source that OUTPUTS High def (ex. 1080i) either through HDMI or component cable. You need to either connect the component cable(R,G,B) from the source to the Input 4 on the TV or connect the HDMI to DVI cable from the source to the Input 5.
You need to set the AV source on the TV to AV5 (if you are using the DVI input) or AV4 (if you are using component cables).
If you want to play Highdef source like Blue Ray then you can just connect the output of the blu ray player to your Tv using either the HDMI to DVI cable or component cable (Red, Green, Blue) and set the TV input to AV5 (for HDMI/DVI) or AV4 (for component).
But if you are trying to get Free High Def from an antenna then you will need to have a component that can OUTPUT high def. The $40 converter boxes don't do this - they simply convert the Digital signal to Analog (non high def). What you need is a High Def TUNER that OUTPUTS High Def. I was looking for one for this same reason and ordered the centronics ZAT 502 HD. But it cost about $80. Then I saw that Tivo had an upgrade deal where I could upgrade my existing Series 2 Tivo to Tivo HD for $99. It has a High Def Tuner in it. So I cancelled my order with Centronics and got the Tivo. In any case if you want Over the air HD you will need a High Def Tuner that will OUTPUT 1080.

Phantom horizontal upward-scrolling lines... from a PS3 with HDMI to DVI

Everything works better on component, I know the salesman at the store says its better, but its not....I tell customers all the time (I could hook up three tvs side by side..HDMI-DVI-Component and the human eye cannot tell the difference) The reason the DVI and Hdmi were created was for copy guard encription....Although the component is an analog signal, it goes to a A/D conversion..........But this is just my insane opinion...Good Luck
