Yamaha P-200 elec piano - when I press the keys, they kind of make clicking sounds like they need to be oiled...what should i do?

I got this piano in 1999 and I love it. Have always used it. This year I haven't used it that much and I just went to practice on it for a show I have coming up and the action feels much harder and the keys make clicking sounds. This is urgent. What do you suggest?

Thanks
Karen

thanks for your answer! i know the action is very hard. i normally play on an acoustic steinway but had to prepare for a concert in both classical and pop that i would have to play on the yamaha. i agree that it is really really heavy.

how do you clean it out?

I have a Yamaha P200.

One thing I noticed is that it is the hardest electronic keyboard I have ever played. The action is pretty close to a real piano but it is the hardest action I have experienced.

Could you just be a bit out of practice or not recalling accurately what is was like to play it?

Or of course it could be gummed up with crud if it wasn't covered or in it's case while you weren't using it.

There is definitely a sound when the key come up after being played - you could call it a thump or a click I guess. Again it could be a crud issue as well.

Having it cleaned could be helpful.

I just experienced my p85 with a key problem on the F# below middle C. You will need to disassemble the keyboard and usually the keys are groups of 6 - 8 keys. If you remove the group that has the problem you might be able to find the problem visually. Mine just involved removing and reinserting the F# key back into the assembly. Then reinstalling the group of keys. If you can't get the key to work properly, you will probably need to buy the group assembly from Yamaha.

take it back, its still under warranty. That means the key has a contact problem in the circuit. you have to take it all apart, clean it, check the contacts....probably lint. You can try vaccumming it and it might fix the problem. I bought one too and it wasnt good

Although the keys have a weighted feel, this is not because of a system involving connection t hammers as in an acoustic piano. This is done mechanically, however, which would indicate a need for cleaning. If you have an authorized Yamaha service center in you area they would need to do the cleaning.

Check if it might be dragging on the edge of the case. The restoring force for some of these comes from a silicone rubber dome that is oart of the contact. SOMETIMES the dome fails.

The control panel hinges upwards and you have to move the keybed back a bit to get at the jack. All the screws on the bottom for the keybed. I'm not sure where the ones for the control panel are.

Yamaha P-200 electric piano does not have any

Plug in your ear phones to see if you can hear the sound that way. If not you are experiencing some internal failure in your integrated amp output.

In that case you will need to get authorised service.
