Question about Kenmore 92002 / 92004 Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Power Failure results in no oven or digital display.

We had a power line down consequently experienced low voltage for over 24hrs. Never thought to pull plug on Kenmore 665-92154300 range. So we have no digital display and the oven doesn't work. The glass cook top does work. The display reads.... PF 5A6. I turned off the main breaker for over 30 mins to try to reset the unit but nothing changed.

Can a microwave be repaired?

Yes it is repairable, but if you do not have any experience in the repair of microwave ovens do not engage in their repairs because it is one of the most dangerous household appliances and the consequences can be disastrous. If light and turntable works than low voltage circuit (220V or 110V) works well. In this case the problem is in a high voltage (HV) circuit which is made up of the magnetron, HV diode (rectifier), HV capacitor and HV fuse or protect diode. Failure is in any of these components in "HV circuit" or in the main board. If light and turntable does not work than fault could be in power supply elements like: power supply cord, transformer, power board, fuse (glass or ceramic, ussualy 8A, 10A or 12A) on power board.

Microwave oven will not work

Power supply circuit may have failed, if your home experienced an electrical surge, it may be as simple as a blown low voltage fuse replacement, unplug and remove the cover, inspect closely with a good flashlight.

KITCHENAID OVEN MODEL KEMS 308 SELF CLEANING

Hi David.

The error is F5E1 and means door latch problem detected. This happened in consequence of the power cut while the unit was in self clean.

Try pressing and holding down the cancel button for one minute.
Try disconnecting power from circuit breaker for ten minutes, that will reset the control board.
If that does not work the door latch, wiring and control module must be tested and the defective part replaced.

Here full troubleshooting from Kitchenaid service papers:

1. If the door lock is latched:
  1. Disconnect power.
  2. Check wiring and connectors from control module to door switch, then from door switch to control (do a continuity test). If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step 3.
  3. Replace the door switch.
  4. Re-apply power.
  5. Press and hold down any key down for 1 minute to clear the F5 failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and wait one minute.
2. If door not latched:
  1. Disconnect power from unit.
  2. Check wires and connectors from control to latch switch, then from latch switch to control. If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step C.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the door switch.
3. Measure door switch (door open =switch open - Ohms infinity/small low voltage terminals depending on test done- Ohms reading is done with power off). Replace switch if defective.
4. Measure latch switch (unlatch = switch open, CAUTION - oven light contacts are closed). Replace switch if defective.
5. If corrections are made in any step, reconnect power to control. Press and hold any key for 1 minute to clear R failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.
6. If the problem remains, disconnect power and replace control module.

Regards.

Kennmore ultra wave shut off and F-9 message on display

LG's service manual troubleshooting section suggests the F9 code could be due to line voltage, magnetron, inverter module, "Relay 2", or a loose connection between door/magnetron/control PCB (Power Control Board).

Other indications might help narrow down these choices before having to pull out your multimeter and crack open the microwave case; for example, if the microwave works, but heats slowly, then the troubleshooting manual narrows your choices down to magnetron or line voltage problems, and pretty much rules out the other possiblities.

In other cases, F9 error code indicates an inverter failure. This can sometimes by caused by a power surge or glitch through the electrical lines. You can sometimes clear this fault by completely unplugging the microwave for 1 minute. Plug it back in and see if the fault code returns. If it does, then you have an internal component failure that will need to be serviced by a technician.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answer).

The start button is not working-everything else seems to be fine. There have been some power fluctuations. Any thoughts?

Sorry to read about your problem.
It seems your have a general failure in the power control or switch failure on the unit. Since your unit has power, and things lite. it is more likely you have a control/switch problem,

Careless troubleshooting of a microwave oven can result in death or worse. Experienced technicians have met their maker as a result of a momentary lapse of judgement while testing an oven with the cover removed. Microwave ovens are without a doubt, the most deadly type of consumer electronic equipment in wide spread use.

The power supplies for even the smallest microwave ovens operate at extremely lethal voltage and current levels. Do not attempt to troubleshoot, repair, or modify such equipment without understanding and following ALL of the relevant safety guidelines for high voltage and/or line connected electrical and electronic systems.

Microwaves must be serviced by technicians due to the inherent dangers involved in repairing these appliances. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even though the unit is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any internal component repair.

Is the "power failure" a problem in the machine or a power failure in the AC line voltage coming into your home. You may have experienced an AC voltage surge coming into your home.

Cannot get display clear on kenmore oven

Unplug the cord behind the oven. You'll need to pull out the oven a bit. Not too far as the flexable gas line is there also. Wait 10 min and replug the oven. This will reset the curcuit board after the power surge.

How can you check to see if your microwave oven is working at full power

The following test will provide a suitably accurate measurement of the output power of any microwave oven. Variations or errors in performing this test will produce uncertain results. If the line voltage (from the electrical outlet) is low, the magnetron output will be correspondingly low.

Equipment needed:

- Microwave safe container with 1000 mL (1 Liter) gradation.
- Fahrenheit or centigrade thermometer

Procedure:

Pour exactly 1000 mL (1 Liter) of cool tap water into the container. Using the thermometer, stir the water, then measure and record the temperature. For accurate results the water should be about 60 degrees F (20 degrees C).

Place the container on the center of the oven cooking shelf (do not leave the thermometer in the container and remove any metal racks), and heat the water (at full power) for 63 seconds. Use the second hand of a watch, not the oven timer.

After the heating time is completed, immediately remove the container, stir the water, re-measure and record the temperature of the heated water.

Subtract the starting water temperature (step 2) from the ending water temperature (step 3) to obtain the temperature rise.

To determine the output power in watts, multiply the total temperature rise by a factor of 38.75 if you're using a Fahrenheit thermometer or 70 if you're using a centigrade thermometer.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Inner part of Triple element on 790.9912940 won't turn on I just experienced the same problem I've been reading about here and on other appliance repair sites: the inner element of my Kenmore Elite's front-right triple element will not turn on, despite the control panel saying it's "on." The range is about 2 years old, just like many other people have said. Also, Sears naturally wants to charge $65 to even come look at the part, and then several hundred more for a new element. From reading other comments and after talking to Sears, it seems like there is no extra warranty or recall on this part. This triple element is apparently a defective design if I can find so many reports of this exact same issue with only a cursory Google search. Would not have bought Kenmore anyway if it hadn't come with the house, because I've heard of this kind of thing with them far too often, despite their obvious good looks and nifty features... I'd rather not have to spend hundreds of dollars just to keep my $1.2k range working properly - for that price it should have a 5-year warranty at least in my opinion. I'm going to see about removing the element and putting in a new one on my own, as getting the part itself (Sears Direct Part Number 316216702) is only about double the cost of getting a technician to come out in the first place. You can see a handy part diagram of the range top at this link, by the way: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http%3a%2f%2fc.searspartsdirect.com%2flis_png%2fPLDM%2fR0610001-00003.png The element that has failed on my range is part 15B in the diagram.
