Temperature swings from 10 below to 15+ above and makes a noise like it is blowing air

This freezer is at our church. We had a supper and what was left over went into the freezer. At the time it loaded the temp. was 10-20 below 0, in the blue on the gage. That was Sunday. Thursday evening the temp. was +40 degrees and the food was starting to thaw. The next morning the temp. was back down to 10-20 below, in the blue. Yesterday morning the temp. was in the blue. Last tnight it was in the red at about 15+ degrees and the same this afternoon. What's up?

SOURCE: Delfied Freezer6000XL freezing temps are not hold

Sounds like a refrigerant restriction in the system. Recover the refrigerant, replace the filter drier and pull a deep vacuum on the system before recgarging.

SOURCE: the unit begins a defrost cycle without warning

in general, a freezer will go into a defrost cycle about every 6 hours and usually from 25 to 40 minutes. After the defrost, the unit should function normal. Pull down to temp and cycle off. If the product shows signs of thawing, then I would be concerned about the box temp. Defrost may be too long or some other issue may be effecting it. Otherwise, if no signs of thawing, I wouldn't be too concerned. It's the product condition that is the concern.

SOURCE: Is it possible for a

I would look to see if it is tripping during the defrost cycle. One of the heater elements my be faulty. Never heard of a bad TXV causing a breaker tripping, but I guess it's possible. I would adjust the superheat so that it is about 6 to 8 degrees just prior to unit reaching temp and shutting off. I'd start there.

Our Thermador Freezer door seals so hard after being opened that you can't open it again. Why? Also Sometimes after opening it makes this weird gurling/bubbly noise.

thermodynamics: pressure differential when warm air cools causing a difference in pressure. after closing a freezer wait until the pressure equalizes usually within 10-15 seconds then reopen the freezer. as far as the gurgling this is normal. it is the drain tube usually a J type tube that prevents warm air from returning into the freezer.

It seems that the temp more often goes up to 20-30's and that food is not as frozen when I check it. When temp goes up I check it for next couple of minutes and usually within 10 min the temp is back down...

This is normal. All commercfial freezers must defrost 3 to 5 times a day, or they will freeze over at the coil and then stop freezing. A timer in your freezer turns off the compressor and turns a heating element on for 10 to 15 minutes. During that time the coil heats and melts frost from the coil. Usually within 30 minutes the temperature will briefly rise to 20 t0 25 degrees F and then quickly drop down to 0 degrees F. The food rarely defrosts in this short period of time..

I have a Frigidaire model GLFU206FWA upright freezer. The temperature control won't go above 10 degree F. This causes freezer burn on some foods after a period of time. Is there a way to regulate the...

Good day,
Manufacturers of freezers do not give the option of running the machine much above that temperature. Normal operating temperature for a freezer is about -2 to about 8 above F.
Otherwise people could accidentally set the temp too warm and cause a loss of food.
Some appliance parts houses carry universal thermostats that could possibly cover the temperature range your looking for, but 30 degrees is far to warm to preserve frozen food safely.

Freezer temperature does not get below 10 degrees

this is something you can do now. Check this 1st:
make sure that the air vents are not blocked and that you didnt overload the freezer with food

there can be other things that will not bring the temp. below 10 (that temp. is not too bad as long as it doesnt spoil the food)
here are the possiblities:
t'stat is set too low
t'stat is not responding to zero degrees (all that means is it is shuting off the compressor too soon to reach zero)
dirty condenser
r-134a freon is a tad low (only takes like 9 oz. if lose 1 or 2 that is enough to affect performance)
the freon is the last thing to check cuase you have to call someone to do that for you...

Well hope this was helpful... check the temp often watch to see if it gets above 20 degrees cause that will spoil you food..

Just installed refrigerator. how long does it take to make ice the first time

The icemaker has a thermostat built-in that calls for water from the water valve at a certain temperature. Ideally, the freezer temperature should be around 0 to 10 degrees. Ice production, depending on temperature, should initiate around 6 to 8 hours later (assuming that the door remains closed most of the time).

Temperature swing specification in a chest freezer.

It depends on the control that your freezer utilizes.

If your temp control dial has the numbers 0-9 or 1-9, then you have whats commonly known as a coil temp sensor.

Unlike an air temp contol that measure the air temp inside the freezer and comes on and off with a 3-5° swing, the coil temp sensor runs a little bit different.

With a coil temp control or sensor, the temp control has a capillary tube and bulb that is inserted into the coil either at on of the ends down a guidetube or just into the center of the radiator type fins. This temp control measures the temperature of the coil, and not the temperature of the air inside the freezer. When the unit runs, the coils typically gets 20° colder than the air temp. And when the control satisfies (shuts off), it will not call for cooling again until the sensing bulb has reached the cut-in point which is typically well above design box temp.

So, to quickly answer your question, yes it is possible to have a 25° temp swing and not have anything really wrong with the unit. That is how its been designed to operate and that is how it will operate. Your only option (although not recommended) is to replace the coil temp sensor with and air temp control. That will give you more consistent temps.

Also, when taking temp of a freezer with a coil temp sensor, be sure to temp the product in the freezer and not the air temperature.

My wife and I bought a Kenmore chest freezer (14.8 cubic foot) about 6 weeks ago. It is made by Frigidaire for Sears, and the model number is #253.165.42105, serial # WB94341279. It has been working OK. ...

This is well with in factory specifications. Hot air rises and cold air drops. Because a chest freezer does not have a fan to circulate the air it is normal for the basket to be warmer than the bottom of the freezer. The bottom of the freezer is used for food you want to keep for a longer period of time. What you store in the basket is food you will freeze for a short period of time. Ice cream should not be kept in the basket. As you fill your freezer with food you will find that the temperature will equal out because the frozen food will take up the place of the frozen air which will give you a more stable freezer temperature.
Try your test when you have it full of food.

Need -20 degrees Celsius...Will this brand get there?

If all is ideal maybe -10 an occationally -15 and this is F considerable coolder than -20C. ALSO fyi a chest freezer will stay at or below these temps better than an upright and especially a self defrosting model. Because a chest freezer you dont loose all the cold air when you open the door. TYhey are not made in auto matic defrost as far as I know (never have seen one but then I havent been looking for one either. An up right freezer can be manual defrost or automatic. but the cold air falls ouit every time the door is opened.

Please let em know if this helps you by giving me as high a mark as you can and thank you for using fixya.
