Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a Harman-Kardon FL8380 5 Dics CD changer. The tray did not return all the way and was sticking out about 1/4". I removed the entire table and tray. Boy, what a job trying to re-align the spindle wheels. I do not think I have it aligned properly. Any thoughts on how to do this? I know the spindles have (for lack of terminology) spring loaded arms so that the bottom spindle when it is turning the spring loaded arms will not allow the wheel to only rotate so farm, which controls when the CD is moved in the unit that plays the CD. When I turn the unit on, the tray opens by its self and then returns closed. The front panel indicates "Disc" and flashes. Then the tray opens again after about 10 secs. And the process starts all over again. It is a Harman-Kardon FL8380. HELP!

Followup on higlider's problem. Now it has to be turned on ten times before it stays on. Email from Harman Kardon only suggests taking it to an authorized repair shop. It is clear that it is not from speaker short or overheating, because it only happens when the rcvr is cold.

SOURCE: how do you fix a scuff mark on a harman kardon tuner

unfortunately not, the fascias are generally spray painted plastic. The only decent solution is to replace the whole fascia. A dodgy way would be to mask off the area and respray a symmetrical part of it to try and not look like a repair. Short of that, you may just live with it.

The loading mechanism is out of timing. This needs to be taken apart and reassembled. I'll try and locate the instructions for this tonight.

SOURCE: We have the RCA RS2767i

Let me respond with a possible solution although I'd bet that both of you already tried these.

The reason I checked into this is because I'm looking for a new mini system. I happen to be at Target and they only had 2 models - this one and a SONY. I certainly didn't want to buy the RCA given these problems, so I asked the salesperson, who seemed to have some knowlege.

As far as opening the tray on top, there is a button to push right under the tray. The button has an icon of a triangle on it. This seems to be somewhat of a standard icon for opening the tray or ejecting a CD (my car's CD has the same icon for ejecting a CD).

As far as only being able to get 3 CD's out, there is another button under the tray marked "disc skip". This rotates the tray. When you open the tray, you can only get to 3 of the CD's. When you push disk skip, it rotates the tray one position, so you can get the 4th one out. Another push and now you can get the 5th one.

Sometimes my CD changer doesn't shuffle the disks. If I only have 1 CD or DVD in it and push the tray open button, the disk stays in the unit and the tray revolves to an intermediate position. I push the button to put the tray back and try disc skip; that usually works.

If your problems are not solved per above, then I definitely do NOT want to get this.

Screen reads "OVER HEAT"

It means the audio output stage in the receiver is getting to hot and goes into auto shutdown to protect the circuits, check all speaker wires for shorts, if by chance you added extra speakers recently remove them. If there is no change you will need a professional to assess the receiver.
