Every valve is unique to the system in which it is plumbed. You cannot specifically say that there is one way to turn a valve and then apply it to your situation. So, there is a way to determine what you need. Three way valves should be plumbed with the water flowing into the valve at what one would recognize as the "leg" of a letter "T".

Assuming the valve is plumbed this way, the source of flow to the other ports is either from the pool/spa or to the pool/spa. for a valve plumbed in front of a pump, the direction is from the pool/spa. For the other 3 way valve, it is to the pool/spa.

The easiest way to detemrine flow is point the valve handle to one direction. Keep in mind that water flow travels under the valve handle. So, if you see water flowing from your skimmer at the pool, the direction the valve handle is pointing is FROM the pool. The opposite port of the valve (180 degrees) is FROM the spa. Do the same for the other valve. If water flows to the spa with a jet action as opposed to a small trickle, you have directed flow TO the spa.

In general, both handles will be pointed in the same direction. At times, they may not so that is why you need to determine flow and then label thew ports.

It is not wise to run a system with the flow not set for POOL suction/POOL return or SPA suction/SPA return. Having the valves in opposite direction can result in an elevated spa draining to a level equal to the pool.

How do I install a diverter valve on a whisper flow pump

You must be using the wrong terminology as there is no diverted valve to a Pentair, purex, Pac_fab whisperflow as this a model of a pump. There a're diverted valves in a 3 way valve on the plumbing in front of the pump or in the skimmer to the pool and or spa. So feel free to email me back with further info and I'll be happy to walk you through it. Hightidepools@gmail

How do i install a diverter valve

Cut and glue the valve into the PVC pipe. Use PVC cement and solvent to glue the pipe into the valve.
Install this valve in the section of pipe you want to divert the water from one section of jets to another section.

Suspected air leak from pentair 3 port valve?

One way to test this is to pour cool aid on the valves with it set to both settings and see if the water effluent changes color. If it does then you are looking at a rebuild or new valve. If it does not then you need to check the line to the skimmers.

How do I remove a Pentair 2'' slide valve, it doesn't pull up out of its position after removing the top holding bracket, seems to be stuck and I don't want to force it for fear of breaking the mechanism.

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Keep trying. The o-ring(s) are probably rolled up and you need to force it out. I have never broken the body after yanking several of those out so I doubt you will break the valve. If you do it can be replaced without getting a whole new filter...just in case.

Which positions of the handle divert waater

The 'stop' is opposite the direction the handle extension points, so in the picture shown with this post the port pointing left is closed and the ports facing down and right are open.

Does anyone know if Pentair makes a 3 or 4 inch PVC, 3-way lube-free Diverter Valve?

Not in the residential products. IF they do, it would be in a commercial use, but I believe they do not.
