Question about Sony Flat Panel Televisions

1 Answer

Florescent blue dots on the screen

It started out with 3 dots and everyday there are more of them. They are bright blue and just randomly scattered on the TV screen. Do you know what the problem might be and is there a fix?

Is there a way to fix this

  • Anonymous Jan 18, 2009

In addition to the blue dots on my KDF42WE655, there is a florescent border around the bottom right side extending to the middle of the screen.

I have the blue line at the bottom of the picture. Seems this is the same problem.

Blue spots on screen

Most likely the LCD panel is failing. These are "stuck pixels". Common with early LCD displays used on DLP TVs.

The manufacture ststes ther eis no adjustment of brightness on that lcd. They suggest tilting the screen top back or top forward to get the best picture.

I have a LG 42P X5D when there is a dark colour in the picture on the screen there are red dots scattered in the dark colours i would like to know how much it would cost to fix this issue the problem...

This is a common fault on all LG sets with few people offering any solutions. I can offer a solution that could remove 95% if not 100% of the dots.
Remove the back of the set, there are about 40 screws. On the left hand side on a circuit board you will see 3 or 4 blue plastic boxes with yellow screw adjusters in them. The only 2 you are interested in are VR3 "setup" and VR2 "setdn". Mark the location with a marker pen so that you know where the factory settings were. Then turn VR3 fully clockwise. If this does not get rid completely do the same with VR2. This worked for me today, I was about to throw the TV away but I now have a 95% improved screen, sharper and more vibrant picture and saved hundreds. It only took about 20 minutes to do too. Hope it works.

Turn on TV, blue light powers up but screen does not power on. turn off and back on a few times and screen eventually powers on. also get occasional light purple dots scattered about screen. disappears...

I t may have dying power supply module due to bad caps with bulging/leaking top/seal. That will be the first place to look.

Backlighting issues on tv set (I think). Screen goes extremely dark after about 30 min. of viewing. Does not return to orginial brightness unless unit is left off for a long period of time

Lcd tv sets are lit by small glass florescent tubes called cold cathodes and, are powered by: ballasts called inverters... these go out just like your office florescent lighting the parts can be purchased online from electronic parts houses and, are easily replaced

Bright Blue and Green screens seem to blink.

Do not use component video. Test S video or 3 rca's red black and yellow(video) , see if they work! you need all 3 inputs on component video, sounds like you may have the colors mixed, check all color coding slowly. Sometimes the comp video out can be too strong, try using a splitter , reduces signal by 3 db, try 2 then 3 in line. This is only a test. keep in touch...

Blue dots on LCD screen

You will most likely need to replace the panel. You will have to contact Sony and they will send a Factory Trained Technician to your home to replace it. Since you are not on Factory Warranty this repair will cost you. You may find it cheaper just to replace the television.
