Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

1 Answer

"Mycomputer" not functioning

Good morning Sir.
On clicking MYCOMPUTER the harddisk drives-C,D,E,F and FDD, CD drive and Pendrive are shown. On rightclicking any of the drives C,D,E,F of Hard disk--click Explore or Open -- the drives don't open to show files or folders. However the other drives namely - FDD, CD, Pendrive are opening.

I am now acessing the files and folders of C,D,E & F drives through "My documents".

Please suggest solution or system cleaning tool. I have already cleaned the drives by Symantec Antivirus.

Thank you.

You have changed their place, they should be on drive C, try to right click on them, go to property and find where are they now.If you can, just replace them.

How do I access, view, import images from cd's

Go to Start, select MyComputer, this will bring up your drives. Typically the cd-rom drive is drive D:\, but when you're looking at all of your drives I'm sure you'll be able to tell which one is the correct drive. So right+click on the cd-rom drive and select "explore" or "Expand" and this will open up the Cd and you can navigate through the folder, pictures, etc. You can also double-click with the left mouse button.

Hi,
Due to WriteProtectOption in Registry,it does not allow your pendrive to format.So You follow

1.Go to Run->regedit
2.MyComputer->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Control -> StorageDevicePolicies
3.Delete the StorageDevicePolicies in Your Registry.

Now You can format the Pendrive

Hope this Helped!

Unable to format pendrive due to viruses.

you have to stop Autorun feature of yourwindows which kicks in when we connect any new storage device first,then you will be able to format the drive and start fresh.

Steps to remove autorun:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715
(restart your computer first without the pen drive and then start the below procedure)
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following entry in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionpoliciesExplorerNoDriveTypeAutorun
  3. Right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type 0xFF todisable all types of drives. Or, to selectively disable specificdrives, use a different value as described in the "How to selectivelydisable specific Autorun features" section.
  5. Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.
  6. Restart the computer.

Since you're saying that your pen drive has a virus the best way to correct this problem is to format the pen drive, to do that just connect the Pen drive to your computer and then when its already detected by the computer, Juts double click Mycomputer and you should see the pen drive there then right click on the pen drive and select format after that everything should be fine.....
