Question about Philips DIRECTV H20 DTV Receiver

1 Answer

DTV H20-600 How would I go about testing the voltages? Are there pin outs I would use a volt meter to do the tests? I am pretty sure it is not the power supply since that was the first thing I swapped out between the two units. Also is there a diagnostics mode? I ask because this may or may not be related to the problem. The weird booting procedure is required even if I had the receiver unplugged over night. If I plug the receiver in it will continuously keep cycling the lights. I press reset then it performs a complete cycle and locks and the receiver gets extremely hot. To get it to function I use the procedure that I mentioned in my earlier post.

The receiver does have a ECO 2.0 sticker on it. Does that mean my receiver is a refurb? I would like to try to locate the IC and the transistor so I can test it. It would be great if it was a easy fix.

    Thank you,

Before we get into measuring any voltage. Read the info from this link and see if that applies to the receiver that is acting up on you.

It says no info on the programs I want to record and won't record them. The guide also shows no info in those areas.

Make sure the receiver is powered off each night so it can receive updates through the satellite to the guide.

You can force a guide download by unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, you can run a check switch test from Menu > System Setup > Installation > Point Dish > Check Switch > Test. Let it finish, then exit out of the menu and let it acquire signal and download the guide.

I have "2 room service" The #1 TV picture will move-stop-move-stop....The #2 TV is OK. I've tried with no success to contact Dish.

Hi troymass this Mike Houston of DISH Network. The one thing we want to do is a hard reset by pulling out the receiver power cord for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. the receiver will power back on its own and reacquire to get the strongest signal. If the problem still persists you can run a check switch test MENU-6-1-1 and select Check Switch and then TEST. Once test is completed exit out of all menus.

How do I determine if my alternator needs replacement?

With every thing turned on head lights, Air fan on Hi, radio and doors open. Check the voltage with a volt meter should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts dc. Most parts stores and starter/alternator rebuild shops have a meter and an alternator tester and will test it for free.

Problem with playback on DVR - R15-500 receiver.

Check your signal strength on your second tuner. Dont forget to check all satellites and, if you use the signal meter instead of system test, a few odd and a few even transponders.

It sounds like it may be low.

DTV H20-600

You could check the voltages yourself to see if they are low. The horizontal polarity needs about 19 volts and the vertical polarity about 14 volts to work properly. If those voltages are lower by 25%, the receiver might failed to scan and that is when it locks up because is trying to find signal. The other issue could be a defective power supply if the receiver does not work after that 4 hours. There could be some capacitors that lost their dielectric strength causing the drop in voltage.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Searching for Satellite

The voltage is supplied by the power-supply through the RF/IF interface usually encased in a metal box on its own. Also without knowing the model number of your unit I cant help any further.

Directv h20 receiver has low volyage to the lnb.

Check inside the receiver for a defective LM317 IC or a TIP42C transistor, but before that you should check for proper voltage from the power supply to that IC.
LM317/TIP42C control the switching of voltages that power up the LNB, you should be getting 14 volts for vertical channels and 18 volts for horizontal.
Good Luck.
