Unfortunately you have a bad display. There isn't any way to repair the display itself when these problems occur, but it can be replaced. Usually it costs almost as much to replace a laptop display as it does to replace the laptop, though. You might try an internet search for a replacement screen; there are a good number of sources. You might also check ebay or craigslist. You can sometimes find a dead unit you can get the display from.

Go into "My Computer" and right click the DVD drive and select "Properties". Select the "Hardware" tab. On the 'All Disc Drive" list select your DVD drive and click on "properties". Another window will appear, then select the DVD Region tab - then make your selections.

Got acer aspire notebook with combodrive.it plays all dvds except all ntsc hindi songs dvd.it does not even recognize a dvd in drive.

if you want to play any of the thousands of DVDs imported from any of the other FOUR REGIONS? You need to make your DVD player (or your Windows PC or Mac) REGION FREE, try download region-free software to unlock your DVD player, and make it can play ntsc hindi songs.

Good luck!

I would like to play dvds region 1 and 2 by having laptop unlocked

Go to 'my computer' right click on you dvd drvie, go to properties, click on hardware, click on properties, then on region and change the region to region 2. Please note though that you can only change the region settings a certain number of times. It will tell you how many times you have left remaining when you go to change the region settings.

hope this helps

Region setting on Acer Aspire 8920

Older DVD drives use RPC-1 firmware, which means the drive allows DVDs from any region to play. Newer drives use RPC-2 firmware, which enforces the DVD region coding at the hardware level. These drives can often be reflashed with hacked or Australia and New Zealand (hardware region coding prohibited by law in these countries) RPC-1 firmware, effectively making the drive region-free. However, this usually voids the warranty and can render the drive inoperable if something goes wrong... better contact your laptop manufacturer regarding this

Restoring Region Code

Open My Computer and right click on the DVD Drive and pick Properties. Then click Hardware tab. Then select your DVD Drive from the list and click the Properties button at the bottom.
Then click DVD Region tab at the top.
It should tell you how many more region changes are possible. If it says 0 then it is not possible.

Region 2 dvd's in a region 1 dvd-rom

Hi Macca

I have used this program for a long time on one of my HP laptops. It works a treat. I can play discs from any region without changing the region settings on the rom drive itself.

DVD REGION CODE FIXED TO WRONG REGION

You can only do 5 resets of this for the life of the DVD drive.

Instead of resetting it, consider buying a piece of software that lets you disregard region settings, such as AnyDVD (google for it).
