Same problem. Ran Driver Detective and it stated that I needed an updated driver for my ho officejet v40. Where can I download free updated driver?

I have XP and the same problem, with a twist: I can scan into Wordpad, but not into anything else! I really need to use the OCR software to be able to scan text, but for some reason I can´t find the driver for that nor can I figure out how to scan directly into Microsoft Word (2003). Every time I try I get disconnected (and yes, I installed the HP "disconnect" patch). HELP!

I had that problem. My OS is Vista. It's a Vista issue. To scan in Vista:
Load doc in scanner.
On comp click Windows Icon at bottom left.
Click All Programs, then Windows Photo Gallery, then File, then Import from Scanner or Camera, then HP Office jet XXX / then Scan

Will my HP Officejet v40xi All-in-One Printer work with my new macbook?

This printer is not supported by HP under Mac OSX. You may be able to get it to print with limited functionality suing a generic driver, but none of the specialized functions such as scanning will work.
However, installing an emulater program such as VMWare or Parallels will allow you to run Windows on your Macbook. You could then download the driver from HP's website here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=28235&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=28234&taskId=135
and use the printer from within Windows.
I hope this helps!

Trying to scan pics on HP Officejet 7110. Press 'Start Scan,; display on printer shows 'Scanning to Microsoft Outlook' for over one minute. I can hear the machine scanning and see the scan light working....

Nothing in or jamming document feeder tray.
Change the setup to scan to a file, rather than email.
Try a different USB port.
Reboot all.
Reinstall printer/scanner drivers and software.

Cannot get scanner to operate

If its connected to the computer and you are tring to scan it there you might have to see if there are any updates to the driver software or you might just be missing the one for the scanner part of it.

Inability ro scan to new laptop

Hi,

Before scanning from the printer front panel, make sure your Solution Center is properly installed. Try scanning from the Solution Center first. The status of the printer should say ready before scanning.

Thanks,

MY HP WIRELESS OFFICE JET MODEL #J6480 ALL IN ONE PRINTER WILL NOT SCAN. ATTEMPTING TO DO SO RESULTS IN A POP-UP WINDOW WHICH READS "NO HP DEVICES HAVE BEEN DETECTED>" I HAVE ANHP TOUCH SMART PC RUNNING...

Here is one simple thing to try (not guaranteed but it fixes the problem sometimes):
  • Turn off your OfficeJet
  • Shutdown your PC
  • Turn on your OfficeJet
  • Turn on your PC
  • Try scanning
The reason this this works some of the time is that the software has an incorrect IP address for the OfficeJet.

You might also need to configure your firewall to allow scanning. Try the above first and see if it helps.

If this does not fix the problem, as a temporary work around, there is a way to scan using the web browser on your PC (e.g., Internet Explorer) and type in the IP address of your OfficeJet, which you can get from the front panel of the OfficeJet. You will see an option to scan.

New computer

Go to www.hp.com and let the website auto-detect your printer and download the drivers, however, this is pretty old printer.

Good luck.

Scanning to computer

I had the same problem if I use the buttons on the v40 and try to scan. I get the V40 can not connect to the PC message.

Workaround:

Go to Control Panel-->Scanners and Cameras

In there you will find: Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet V40 Scanner

Right click and select Scan. It will then start the scan wizard which will scan your document.
