I'll be doing a zig zag stitch and it will randomly do a single regular straight stitch and mess it up. The manual has no troubleshooting info on my problem. Any suggestions??
Yip go to the shed pick up the biggest and heaviest hammer you can find (I prefer a sledge hammer) you don't need to unscrew anything just make ure that it is unplugged from the mains and hit it as hard as you can ,it is important that you are standing at the side of it so the parts don't hit you ,wa la now it is completely goosed so when you take it to the recycle site it is of no use to any one else ,I find this very stress relieving ,

Just got the machine at Christmas...could it be a defect?
What I'm doing is applying an applique to a onesie and then zig zag stitching around it.
I went to the fabric store and brought a sample of the problem, the lady there said I should be using a stabilizer (which I wasn't) and using a stretch needle (I was using just a regular one). I did all this (used a water soluble stabilizer and #75 needle) and am still encountering the same problem but not as severe.
in the manual go to the section of selecting thread & needles, it should mention a blue tipped needle, a ball point is also good,
you'll have to adjust your top thread tension accordingly
