Question about Kenmore 43042 Front Load Washer

Open Question

Kenmore front load model 417.43042200. Motor won't turn the tub with out help.

If the load in the tub is light enough or even if the tub is empty, the washer will aggitate, drain and spin and complete the wash cycle as it is supposed to, I i put a heavier load, such as 5 large towels, the motor attempts to aggitate, but is unable to turn the tub. On observation, the pulley will do multiple attempts to turn, but only turns about 1/2 a turn with each attempt . It then reverses direction for the next attempt to aggitate the clothes; however if assist the drum during these attempts, it will turn the number of turns as it should in that aggitation motion. It's as if the motor is just not strong enough to turn the towels along with the water in the tub.

Do i need to replace the motor or is there something else that needs to be checked or changed. I used the schematic from the envelope below the tub. The problem with that is that the wire color coding of the plug that goes into the harness did not seem to match the color code on the schematic. The trouble shooting guide for "the motor won't turn" doesn't seem to fit my problem because, if i just provide a little assistance to get the drum to turn in either the aggitation or spin mode it will continue and complete the cycle.

Can anyone help me?

SOURCE: GE WJSR1070A top loader wont aggitate.

You either have a bad timer, transmission, or the agitator is stripped on the splined shaft

SOURCE: no aggitation or spin, high pitched noise.

Sounds like you have a broken motor coupling , empty the unit , tilt it back against something so you can get a good look under it , the motor is in the middle of the pump[front side] and the gear case[back side] the shaft comes out of both ends of the motor , look for the part that connects the motor and the gear case , it is a small round rubber and plastic piece with prongs , all of the prongs have most likely broke off. , replace this and it should be fine. let me know if you have any other questions.

SOURCE: Kenmore 20842 won't spin or aggitate

Check your motor drive coupler. Tilt washer back against wall and look between motor and transmission . You will see a rubber grommet and two plastic couplers on each end of rubber , They may appear broken or you will see rubber shavings under washer.

Out of balance even with tub empty. can i get to

I assume it is a top load model. In which case the back does not come off. Some recent models had a problem with the inner tub (balancing ring on the top of it) going out of balance, and even coming loose from the basket drive. You will need the Whirlpool spanner wrench to remove the tub, or at least tighten the spanner nut if it has come loose. This means removing the case completely. I have only on one occasion seen the tension spring (from transmission to rear of case) break. More than likely it is the inner tub.

Washing machine makes clothes get black stains Kenmore front loading Heavy Duty 2 way tumble machine.

This is from not enough HOT loads.

Fatty deposits gather between the basket and tub during COLD washes.

Then they are being released in large numbers when you do your whites on HOT.

It is recommended to do 1 HOT load per week.

Do an empty load with some degreaser added (like Goo-Gone) on the fullest/hottest setting you have.

Washer's tub will not move

I don't know what the E5E error code refers to but I can think of at least one possible reason for no motor action, even if motor itself is ok and board has been replaced. The relay itself could be faulty with no power from the output side, even if it clicks on. Less likely but still possible would be a faulty overload protector at the motor.

Washer Machine does not work properly.

MR, Im assuming that your model starts with 417-44102. There could be a number of problems here but lets start with the drain pump itself. On this model, even though the tub looks empty there could be water under the basket. There is a pressure switch that will not allow the unit to spin if it detects water in the tub. I have found on many occasions that the pump has debris in it preventing a full drain. If you drop the bottom panel you will see the pump on the right side bottom. Get a pan, remove the hoses and clean out the debris. Another thing is you want to make sure that the hot and cold water are turned on to the washer, it will not advance if they are not turned on. If these areas check out ok, then some detailed tests will have to be made on the motor controller. back
