Agitator flutes are breaking off

The bottom parts of the agitator are getting ready to break off. I believe it might be called the flutes. All three are almost completely torn off.

Cannot remove top agitator from bottom agitator on whirlpool ultimate care 2

Easy once you have removed the agitator put both feet on either sides. In other words hold it down and pull. The factory tabs needs to be broken. If that fails used a long screw driver and try and break off the tabs.

My GE wjre5550h1ww waher makes a continuos loud clank/bang noise when time the washer is in the soak/agitator cycle. Rinse and spine cycle, normal noise/sound. Please help! Thanks

The part (it has three prongs) that the transmission (yes your washing machine has a transmission) uses to cause the reciprocating motion of agitation has broken off 1 or 2 of the 3 prongs, and, if you
continue to use the washer (you might as well, the part is broken already - you may as well run it until it dies), the part will break completely, and you'll lose the soak/agitator cycle altogether.
FIX: replace the broken 3-prong plate, and give it a nice coating of automotive bearing grease to help it last for awhile (until the next thing breaks).

Get agitator out without breaking it

Take the head of the agitator off, It unscrews. Once it;s off look down inside there at the very bottom. You will see a bolt, this bolt comes out which hold your agitator in. Once this is removed, the agitator is easy to get out. This will be where the agitator dogs are. Mostly worn.

How to remove agitator cam from the upper part of the agitator?

Had same problem with my washer. Check to see if there are little plastic tags holding top/bottom of agitator. after replacing dogs just ensure that you realign with tags so they do not break off.

Agitator not turning properly

If you are talking about the upper part of the agitator, this is a common problem with well used machines.

Little plastic dogs that grab the serrated sides of the agitator wear down the grabbers. Pull of the cap on top of the agitator and then the cup at the bottom of a well inside.. You will see a bolt head, remove it and the upper part of the agitator comes off.

The dogs are about $5 at Sears or other appliance parts store. It is tricky to replace them, so you need an appliance person to describe how to do it, and print you a copy of the parts break down of the agitator for reference, so an appliance store that sells parts is the better place to go. Sears won't help you with it.

If you are not all that handy, I would not recommend you do this. If you don't understand the technique, or able to intuitively figure mechanical things out for yourself, you could be pulling out you hair. If the person who explains how to replace these dogs doesn't mention doing it with the agitator up-side down, then they don't know how to do it either. Good luck, and you will get a great sense of accomplishment if you succeed. If you break one or both of two little plastic tabs that snap the lower part of the upper agitator to the lower part of the agitator, don't worry about it. They just keep things together and the dogs from falling out when you tip the agitator upright again. You can still hold it together with both hands in order to slip in back on the agitator spindle in the washer and bolt in back on without these convenience tabs.

Dual Agitator not working

If the upper portion of the agitator is not working, this is commonly caused by worn agitator dogs. The following link explains:

Yes...there is such a thing. These small plastic pieces have been the source of many trouble calls and only cost a few dollars to replace if you know how to do it. Replacements can be ordered on line at,, or Use your model number for the search criteria and look under the "Agitator Parts" section. The link also give instructions on how to remove the agitator. This is a very simple repair, that only costs a few dollars. If you wish not to order on
line, use the part number provided by the Sears website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This is a common part they will have in their inventory. If you require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
