You might not have bought the correct memory. I don't know if you use SDRAM, DDR or DDR-2, but there are different types of RAM within those categories. In SDRAM for example there is ECC and non-ECC. One checks errors, the other not, ALL TYPES OF RAM NEED TO BE THE SAME TYPE ECC OR NON ECC.  Also, you may have three slots that take 528MB max for example, put a 1 GB ram into that slot and it aint gonna work. Please let me know what type of memory you had, put in, and type of computer. You can try going to www.cruicial.com if you want to check what type of RAM your motherboard (computer part) will take.
hope this helps. post again if you can't figure it out. PS Try computer recyclers for cheaper ram than Frys or Best Buy.

I had to replace the motherboard, now have problems with XP

A few hints where to start looking:
  • Open the Task Manager, switch to the Performance tab and check the CPU load. If you see a constant high CPU usage, switch to the Processes tab and check which process causes the high CPU load (column "CPU").
Also check the memory usage graph on the Performance tab. Memory usage should be low, let's say around 400MB if not many programs are running.
In the "Physical Memory" section, check the Total value. It should (approximately) show the amount of memory actually installed.
  • Open the Device Manager (Control Panel --> System --> Hardware tab --> Device Manager).
If error icons are displayed, try to reinstall the drivers for these devices (download the latest versions from the manufacturer's website, if possible)
  • Open the Event Viewer (Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management --> Event Viewer) . Check all logs for errors and warnings. Try to understand and to solve the problems. Especially pay attention to those that did not occur before the time that you changed the motherboard.

I bought lenovo G550 last week. It came with Windows Vista. I want to install Windows XP on it. I have found that lenovo has driver for windows XP so that will make my life easy :-) But when I try to...

you are most likely getting a BSOD with a stop error code of 0x0000007B which is caused by the Windows XP CD that you are using doesn't have the SATA Hard Drive controller driver needed to recognize and utilize the hard drive. If Lenovo has XP drivers for this model then they should have a SATA driver (roughly 394k) that will need to be loaded FROM A FLOPPY DISKETTE during the boot to XP. (XP Requires the driver to either be slipstreamed into the CD or loaded from a floppy diskette. Trying to load the controller driver USB or a different CD will not work)

We purchased 3 units with windows 95. can we upgrade, to xp or 2000 and load pos software?

Hello,

Basically the answer is no. The Javelin LC's come with 32MB of memory...the required amount of memory for XP and 2000 Pro are double that. 64 MB of memory total needed.

So without upgrading this PC which might not even be possible then you will have to use Windows 95.

Post back if you have any question's or comments. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

What is sequence of files loaded into memory at the time of windows xp booting. What is the use of ''system volume information'' directory present in every drive

if you boot into safe mode of windows xp it will show you what is being loaded and in what order ( too many too remember )

as for system volume information.

This is used for when you use system restore as far as i am aware.
